Having taken the CLP course, I would say that you could use OpenSUSE as a distribution in concert with training materials to achieve the test objectives. The official course materials contain the SLES distribution. James -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

The official course materials probably contain the 60 day trial of SLES. Is the a document explaining the differences between OpenSUSE and SLES? I am hesitant to install something that will expire. :-) -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

the expiration is only for updates, the server will be non-production so needing the most up to date system isn't necessary. JT -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Yes, there is on the Novell site, I forget the exact place. Gooooooogle for it. The differences are fairly substantial, but not insurmountable. If you are a long time suse user your suse knowledge has a tendency to get in the way. You know how you would do something in regular suse, and you are tempted to just do it that way, but since SLES depends heavily on Ldap for almost everything, its a temptation you must resist. To the extent the course depends on, or is focused toward, an ldap oriented installation with the heavy-duty mail chain, (Postfix-Amavisd-Clamv-Spamassassin-Postfix-Cyrus), you may need to change your standard suse install significantly. The SLES installer does this elaborate setup for you. So the answer depends to a large extent on the focus of the course. If its a general purpose course, opensuse would be fine. If its sles oriented, get sles. For the duration you can live without updates if you just want to download it and use it for coursework. -- _____________________________________ John Andersen

I hope to get certified without taking a course. I currently use Gentoo Linux and I have used other distributions but not suse. :-) -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Can you get certified without spending money on the official curriculum? Maybe. But if you fail the test, there goes $150 down the drain. Do you have any IT certs or have taken an exam? I have a few. From personal experience, they don't just test you on the correct way of doing things. They test you on "their" correct way of doing things. I personally haven't done the CLP, but if I remember correctly, there is a hands on portion -- so you will have to buy something other than to just book the exam. Check out the newsgroup on Novell. Those guys will be able to answer more questions. novell.community.certifications.clp novell.community.certifications.cle Also, why don't you take the self test assessment. It's free. You can get some free music too. http://www.novell.com/training/assessment/index.html?sourceid=t_em_TSA_FAQ --- Only five days left to test your SUSE(r) Linux Enterprise Server 10 skills in December and get ten tunes for free! Only 5 days left until December 20, 2006! We invite you to take an online Linux Technical Skills Assessment and see what you know about SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 10. The ten days are almost over - where every tenth person who takes an assessment will receive a $10 itunes gift card. These assessments, which are normally $49.95 and now available for free, are a perfect way to find out what you need to know. There are five assessments, each is more technically demanding than the previous one and corresponds to a Novell training offering. So, test your skills and start rocking! --- -- "Develop success from failures.
