I have recently purchased a Dell Dimension 4600 on which SuSE 8.2 installs extremely easily. Unfortunately however, not owning a conventional television (and having no intention of purchasing one), I rely on a Hauppauge WinTV-GO card in my existing PC with KWinTV to watch television. I also purchased a new WinTV-GO card to be installed in the new Dell. The box claims that the card is a Model 607, however a sticker has been placed over the model number in one location replacing "607" with 612. Having installed the card, the operating system recognises that the card exists; the output of lspci-v run as root: 00:00.0 Host bridge: Intel Corp.: Unknown device 2570 (rev 02) Subsystem: Dell Computer Corporation: Unknown device 0174 Flags: bus master, fast devsel, latency 0 Memory at e8000000 (32-bit, prefetchable) [size=128M] Capabilities: [e4] #09 [0106] Capabilities: [a0] AGP version 3.0 00:01.0 PCI bridge: Intel Corp.: Unknown device 2571 (rev 02) (prog-if 00 [Norma Flags: bus master, 66Mhz, fast devsel, latency 64 Bus: primary=00, secondary=01, subordinate=01, sec-latency=64 Memory behind bridge: fd000000-feafffff Prefetchable memory behind bridge: f0000000-f7ffffff 00:1d.0 USB Controller: Intel Corp.: Unknown device 24d2 (rev 02) (prog-if 00 [U Subsystem: Dell Computer Corporation: Unknown device 0174 Flags: bus master, medium devsel, latency 0, IRQ 11 I/O ports at ff80 [size=32] 00:1d.1 USB Controller: Intel Corp.: Unknown device 24d4 (rev 02) (prog-if 00 [U Subsystem: Dell Computer Corporation: Unknown device 0174 Flags: bus master, medium devsel, latency 0, IRQ 10 I/O ports at ff60 [size=32] 00:1d.2 USB Controller: Intel Corp.: Unknown device 24d7 (rev 02) (prog-if 00 [U Subsystem: Dell Computer Corporation: Unknown device 0174 Flags: bus master, medium devsel, latency 0, IRQ 9 I/O ports at ff40 [size=32] 00:1d.3 USB Controller: Intel Corp.: Unknown device 24de (rev 02) (prog-if 00 [U Subsystem: Dell Computer Corporation: Unknown device 0174 Flags: bus master, medium devsel, latency 0, IRQ 11 I/O ports at ff20 [size=32] 00:1d.7 USB Controller: Intel Corp.: Unknown device 24dd (rev 02) (prog-if 20 [E Subsystem: Dell Computer Corporation: Unknown device 0174 Flags: bus master, medium devsel, latency 0, IRQ 5 Memory at ffa80800 (32-bit, non-prefetchable) [size=1K] Capabilities: [50] Power Management version 2 Capabilities: [58] #0a [20a0] 00:1e.0 PCI bridge: Intel Corp. 82801BA/CA/DB PCI Bridge (rev c2) (prog-if 00 [N Flags: bus master, fast devsel, latency 0 Bus: primary=00, secondary=02, subordinate=02, sec-latency=32 I/O behind bridge: 0000d000-0000dfff Memory behind bridge: faf00000-fcffffff 00:1f.0 ISA bridge: Intel Corp.: Unknown device 24d0 (rev 02) Flags: bus master, medium devsel, latency 0 00:1f.1 IDE interface: Intel Corp.: Unknown device 24db (rev 02) (prog-if 8a [Ma Subsystem: Dell Computer Corporation: Unknown device 0174 Flags: bus master, medium devsel, latency 0, IRQ 9 I/O ports at <ignored> I/O ports at <ignored> I/O ports at <ignored> I/O ports at <ignored> I/O ports at ffa0 [size=16] Memory at febffc00 (32-bit, non-prefetchable) [size=1K] 00:1f.2 IDE interface: Intel Corp.: Unknown device 24d1 (rev 02) (prog-if 8f [Ma Subsystem: Dell Computer Corporation: Unknown device 0174 Flags: bus master, 66Mhz, medium devsel, latency 0, IRQ 9 I/O ports at fe00 [size=8] I/O ports at fe10 [size=4] I/O ports at fe20 [size=8] I/O ports at fe30 [size=4] I/O ports at fea0 [size=16] 00:1f.3 SMBus: Intel Corp.: Unknown device 24d3 (rev 02) Subsystem: Dell Computer Corporation: Unknown device 0174 Flags: medium devsel, IRQ 3 I/O ports at efe0 [size=32] 01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: nVidia Corporation: Unknown device 0322 (rev Subsystem: nVidia Corporation: Unknown device 01b9 Flags: bus master, 66Mhz, medium devsel, latency 64, IRQ 11 Memory at fd000000 (32-bit, non-prefetchable) [size=16M] Memory at f0000000 (32-bit, prefetchable) [size=128M] Expansion ROM at fea00000 [disabled] [size=128K] Capabilities: [60] Power Management version 2 Capabilities: [44] AGP version 3.0 02:00.0 Multimedia audio controller: Creative Labs [SB Live! I have spent a good deal of time experimenting with each option, but none of these work. I understand from Googling that Linux in general has difficulty with some of the more recent Hauppauge products. My question is, are there any other currently available PCI TV tuners that SuSE 8.2 (or 9.0) supports (perhaps not officially, as none appear to be listed in the hardware database, but that folk have found to work)? Unfortunately, installing the card from my old machine into my new one does not appear to be an option since the card in the old machine has been installed for so long that it has developed a marked curvature in its position in the old machine's PCI slot, and although I did attempt to swap it over earlier this evening, I came to the conclusion that the degree of bending of the card required to install it in the new machine may possibly break it, leaving me with no machine that works as as a TV viewing device (I am decommissioning the Dell for now and re-installing my old machine at my home office desk until such time as the TV tuner issue is resolved).
