Possibly. IIRC, a .PRN file is the result of a "print to file" in Windows, so the format of the file will depend on which printer was selected when it was generated. Do you know what sort of printer was selected? If it was a PostScript printer, then it should be pretty easy; if not, but you have that printer connected to you Linux box, you might be able to get it to print, otherwise you're probably stuck. -- David Smith | Tel: +44 (0)1454 462380 Home: +44 (0)1454 616963 STMicroelectronics | Fax: +44 (0)1454 617910 Mobile: +44 (0)7932 642724 1000 Aztec West | TINA: 065 2380 GPG Key: 0xF13192F2 Almondsbury | Work Email: Dave.Smith@st.com BRISTOL, BS32 4SQ | Home Email: David.Smith@ds-electronics.co.uk
Hi Dave.

I'm sure you are right, but I can't remember what gives the .prn fomr. It is a file that could be sent directly to a HP Laser printer.

I have a HP Laserjet 1100A, but would be nice if I just could command from the linux prompt to get the file printed out. The file contents a PCB_Layout. Thanks for the kind reply.

If you had the HP printer selected, then it will be a format suitable for that printer - probably PCL. I'm not sure whether you will get it to work, but assuming you've got your printer installed under Linux, try: lpr -Pprintername filename.prn or, assuming you've got the printer connected to the first parallel port: cat filename.prn > /dev/lp0 HTH... -- David Smith Work Email: Dave.Smith@st.com STMicroelectronics Home Email: David.Smith@ds-electronics.co.uk Bristol, England GPG Key: 0xF13192F2

Most likely it is a PCL file. You might have to send it to a raw queue to print it. Charles -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v1.0.7 (GNU/Linux) iD8DBQE+Lo5v3epPyyKbwPYRAjWfAKCe3QqwhRVvPRMP+pQT0t1GBK1e0QCfen+i PPHRCambEueqZ91TDJRCojM= =Dc5i -----END PGP SIGNATURE-----

If you are using cups you can send the file directly to the printer with the -o raw flag. This will bypass any filtering normally imposed by Cups. e.g. lpr -P <printer> -o raw <filename> -- Regards, Graham Smith ---------------------------------------------------------
