ACPI Configuration Linux Laptop
Hello. I am new to this Mailing list and I have had a couple of questions for awhile regarding ACPI and Linux. First, I am running SuSE Linux on a Compaq Presario 2700 Laptop (also known as the Evo N180). I have been trying to get ACPI support working. I have patched my 2.4.18 Kernel with ACPI-20020611-2.4.18. IF I try to use the newest patch (20020709) or the equivalent test kernel (2.5.*), I receive "Aiee Kernel.... (kernel not syncing?)" errors when booting. That is not my real issue though so I am not going to worry about right now (unless I have to). I want to be able to view my battery status. I have compiled the "Battery Option" along with all the other options regarding ACPI in the Kernel. I installed a neat little utility called KACPI which reads the /proc/acpi/battery/BATT1. On the boot, however, I see messages regarding all my slots have absent batteries. I may be on hunch that Compaq uses BAT0 for battery information in linux. IS this true? If so, is there a way I can add all the relevant setting to a /proc/acpi/BAT0 folder? I have the BAT1 and BAT2 already configured for me but they display no information. This just may be something throwing me off. In addition, if anyone is using one of these machines I would like to here from them and their experiences. I am also trying to configure the machine to support Standby and Resume if anyone has any insight on this but I may be asking too much there as ACPI support apparently is limited. Aside from Power Management, I think if performs well for a Notebook running a "foreign" Operating System. Thank You for All your Help!

Can you please explain how you did that? Maybe off-list? I tried multiple at patching 2.4.18.SuSE kernel and the patch could not be applied. (produced many FAILED lines and could not compile afterwards). Also, after correctly applying patch on stock 2.4.18 kernel could not get past compiling (failed at make modules_install). Later on I found out that SuSE had already a working ACPI compiled in, although it was enabled by default. Now I'm using that.
