Hi there, Here' s my problem: I have 2 identical pc's. On the 1st I have SuSE 8.2 and I wanted to have the same configuration on the 2nd as well. For this purpose I used mondo/mindi. The 2nd pc is actually for "fooling around"/trying new things. After a while things were pretty messed up on the 2nd one: loads of files had wrong permissions. Now (without reinstalling) I want to "copy" the files' permissions from the 1st pc and "paste" them on the 2nd, using a script file. I hope I've been clear enough and you can help me. _________________________________________________________________ MSN 8 with e-mail virus protection service: 2 months FREE* http://join.msn.com/?page=features/virus

Even better, use '-a', that will make sure that everything is exactly the same and implies -r. If both are available on one machine (NFS, hard drive plugged in, etc): rsync -a /directory_on_a /directory_on_b If not: rsync -e ssh -a /directory_on_a user@hostname_of_b:/directory_on_b You can also use unison, which has a nice GUI interface that lets you have better control over what gets copied. I use it for my Zaurus. - -- James Oakley Engineering - SolutionInc Ltd. joakley@solutioninc.com http://www.solutioninc.com -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v1.2.2-rc1-SuSE (GNU/Linux) iD8DBQE/E/5j+FOexA3koIgRAtReAJ4zgmItplppClq019+v+UW18UaxUQCeP+8+ DEfu2HjQ5yzkXjX3WrTOIl0= =cFUV -----END PGP SIGNATURE-----
