Bueno resulta que reconfigure el driver mediante "aticonfig --initial" (en init 3) que como pueden leer mas abajo no funciono, y luego al volver a init 5..... me quede inexplicablemente sin Sax2 (?). Probe todo lo conocido hasta el momento, bueno, conocido al nivel de usuario.
Abajo pego la salida del comando "3Ddiag" y del "glxinfo" y me adhiero a "El Cenachero" con sus reflexiones sobre las torpezas con nuestros SuSE's.

A alguno de ustedes le paso algo asi? Tengo el programa de ATI instalado y funcionando pero la tarjeta... brilla por su ausencia!!

En ese caso, pasa del driver privativo de ATI y usa el driver abierto.
