Hilfe, ich bekomme Suse 9.3 - 64bit nach der Inst. nicht zum laufen
Hallo allerseits, trotz googlen kom ich nicht weiter. Ich habe Suse Linux 9.3 Prof. 64bit neu installiert alles lief dabei ohne Fehlermeldung ab. Nach dem Neustart lief Grub (Suse9.3 Standart) und nach Ablauf der Wartezeit bekam ich einen schwarzen Bildschirm mit einen Farbsaum oben zu sehen. Neustart diesmal mit dem Suse Failsave Eintrag -> div. Meldungen modprobe fehlgeschlagen und am Ende -> Kernel Panic! Neustart diesmal mit dem Suse Standart Eintrag + ACPI=off -> div. Meldungen modprobe fehlgeschlagen und am Ende -> Kernel Panic! Also über Suse 9.3 DVD gebootet, inst. gestartet und in deren Verlauf Installiertes System starten gewählt... und läuft, aber kein *Netzwerk*, Sound und nur VESA-Grafik. Es folgt Neustart mit eingelegter Knoppix CD, bei nVidia die Linux nForce AMD64 Treiber Version: 1.0-0301 und Linux AMD64 Grafiktreiber Version: 1.0-7667 heruntergeladen und in meinem home-Verzeichnis auf Festplatte gespeichert. Jetzt also wieder über Suse 9.3 DVD gebootet usw. Anschließend "init 3" und dann "sh NFORCE-Linux-x86_64-1.0-0301-pkg1.run". Das Inst. Prog. hat dann neu kompiliert (Kernel-Sourcen etc. alles bei der Inst. ausgewählt gewesen), dieser Vorgang lief rasend schnell ab und endete mit einem Mißerfolg -> Modul konnte nicht installiert werden! Den Aufruf des Grafikscriptes hab ich mir dann erspart... Kann mir bitte jemand helfen das System zum laufen zu bekommen. Und wenn Du die _exakten_ Meldungen verrätst, nimmt Dich vielleicht jemand bei der Hand ;-) Übrigens: Es ist unnötig, dieselbe Frage zweimal innerhalb einer Stunde zu stellen - im Gegenteil, es nervt und reduziert dadurch sogar die Antwortchancen. ich hoffe es wird nicht wieder ein Doppelpostig... Ich hatte zuerst Dir und danach Michael geantwortet. Die Antort auf Michaels Mail war 'sofort' auf der Liste und die auf Deine Mail bis jetzt nicht. Ich hab meine erste Mailanfrage weder im Postausgang, unter Gesendet, oder in der Liste gesehen und deshalb nach ca. 1 Std. nochmal losgeschickt... Wie schon geschrieben. Poste mal die Bootmeldungen. Ich vermute, daß der sehr neue X2 Prozessor Probleme macht. Oder die beiden Grafikkarten. Zum testen evtl. mal eine Grafikkarte rausnehmen?! Ein nforce4 Ultra System mit 3000+ CPU ließ sich bei mir jedenfalls Problemlos unter Suse9.3 64Bit installieren. Gruß Michael

Ja, ich würde sagen, dass der so einige Kernelmodule nicht findet und sie deshalb nicht einbinden kann. Nein, die Einträge in Deinen Logs mit den 'No such file or directory', vor allem, wenn dazu noch ein 'FATAL' auftaucht, sind nicht OK. Du hast ein Problem! Du hast einen Kernel, fuer den es kein zugehoeriges Module-Verzeichnis gibt. Entweder ist der Kernel monolith und hat daher keine Module (was ich aber nicht glaube), oder aber bei der Installation des Kernels ging etwas schief. Woher stammt dieser Kernel? Es sieht aus wie ein SuSE Kernel. Hast Du das entsprechende RPM noch? Schau Dir mal mit "rpm -qpl <name>.rpm" den Inhalt des RPM Files an. Gibt es dort das Verzeichnis /lib/modules/2.6.11.4-20a-default? Evtl. musst Du das RPM Paket neu installieren, u.U. auch per Hand mkinitrd etc. ausfuehren incl. noetiger Optionen. Cheers, Th.

Wie schon auf Deine andere Mail von 20:23 geantwortet ist alles von der Suse 9.3 DVD 1. Durch die nicht funktionierende Netzanbindung auch noch ohne You-Updates usw. Das mit dem "rpm -qpl <name>.rpm" muß ich noch kontrollieren, aber ich denke mal ein Fehler im Kernel-RPM von der Suse-DVD wäre schon längst aufgefallen. Entschuldigung für die späte Antwort, ich habe inzwischen den Tipp von Ulrich mit den 2 Kernel ausprobiert (nach dem Motto schlimmer als eine Neuinst. kann es nicht kommen) und es hat geklappt. Leider läuft der 64bit-SMP nicht, aber der 64bit-Default läuft und da kann ich in Ruhe abwarten bis der x2 taugliche Kernel kommt.
Ich hab' des öfteren gehört dass Mitarbeiter von SuSE (sog. 'People') eigene Versionen von Software anbieten. Es wäre also möglich, dass der 64Bit Kernel einen Fehler hat, der bereits von einem dieser People behoben worden ist. Ich kenne keine genauen Adressen, könntest aber vielleicht hier anfangen: ftp://ftp.gwdg.de/pub/linux/suse/people/ Bestimmt aber, dass hier auf der Liste Leute sind die da besser bescheid wissen.

Dagegen scheint es aber ein Module-Verzeichnis fuer den SMP Kernel zu geben, dessen Image aber nicht gebootet wird. Welche Eintraege existieren in Deiner Bootloader-Konfig? Keine Experimente! Ich hab von Linux noch so wenig Ahnung (was ich ändern will) das ich im Moment mit dem Installieren voll ausgelastet bin! Also führte ich folgendes aus: Suse 9.3 DVD 1 rein Rechner Neustart (Bootreihenfolge: 1. CDROM 2. HD) Deutsch ausgewählt 64 bit stehen lassen Installation angewählt den Anweisungen gefolgt bei Software noch Kernel-Entwicklung dazugenommen (wg. der nvidia Treiber) weiter den Anweisungen gefolgt und Pech gehabt Ich kopiere mal die /boot/grub/device.map und /boot/grub/menu.lst und hoffe das es die BL-Konfig ist, oder Dir was bringt. Die Ausgabe von "ls -l" erleichtert Dir uebrigens so etwas... Anhand Deiner Bootloader-Konfig sieht man (wenn ich das alles richtig interpretiere), dass Du Linux auf einer zweiten Festplatte (sdb oder hd1) hast und Windows auf der ersten (sda oder hd0). Gebootet wird das Kernel-Image vmlinuz aus /boot, was wiederum verweist auf das vmlinuz-2.6.11.4-20a-smp, also den SMP Kernel, fuer den auch ein Module-Verzeichnis unter /lib/modules vorhanden ist. Von Festplatte oder von DVD? Du muesstest im Prinzip von Festplatte booten (in Runlevel "3" oder vielleicht besser "S", das kann man entsprechend am grub Boot-Prompt einfach eintippen in die entsprechende Zeile und dann Return druecken), dann das entsprechende Kernel-RPM von Hand neu (erneut) installieren und sicherstellen, dass alles zusammenpasst (Bootloader Konfig, initrd und vmlinuz Kernel Image). Irgendwie ist mir das alles etwas suspekt. Leider ist es schwer, aus der Ferne zu helfen, zumal Du - wie Du selbst sagst - auch ein Linux Anfaenger bist. Schaun wir mal... Anhand Deiner Bootloader-Konfig sieht man (wenn ich das alles richtig interpretiere), dass Du Linux auf einer zweiten Festplatte (sdb oder hd1) hast und Windows auf der ersten (sda oder hd0). Gebootet wird das Kernel-Image vmlinuz aus /boot, was wiederum verweist auf das vmlinuz-2.6.11.4-20a-smp, also den SMP Kernel, fuer den auch ein Module-Verzeichnis unter /lib/modules vorhanden ist. Entschuldigung auch hier nochmal für die späte Antwort. Das booten von Festplatte _ohne_ Umweg über den DVD-Installer führt beim Standart Linux-Eintrag sowohl mit '3', als auch mit 'S' zum schwarzen Bildschirm und beim Failsave-Eintrag nach div. Fehlern zur Kernel Panik. Ich habe die 2 Kernel-Lösung von Ulrich probiert und kann jetzt mit dem 64bit-Default-Kernel arbeiten. Mit der Lösung von Ulrich kann erstmal leben bis der x2 taugliche Kernel kommt. Mit freundlichen Grüßen Peter Schmeichel

Das sieht alles so aus, wie es sollte (IMHO). Ich denke, der Lösungsansatz von Thomas Hertweck ist der Richtige. Daß "uname" dir nen nicht SMP Kernel anzeigt liegt sicher daran, daß du von der Suse DVD gebootet hast, oder? Deine GRUB Einträge sollten den SMP Kernel booten, was aber mit schwarzem Bildschirm und Rechner einfrieren endet. Bleibt für mich nur der Schluß, das der Suse9.3 SMP Kernel mit dem neuen X2 noch nicht klarkommt. Ich würde an deiner Stelle den nicht SMP 64Bit Kernel mit Modulen installieren. Bei Suse registriert angerufen und nach Problemschilderung mit Techniker weiterverbunden worden und Problem nochmal geschildert Fragen und Lösungsversuche wie von Euch Ergebniss war: ich soll's nochmal per Mail schildern, aber es wird wohl nichts werden und ich kann ja das 32bit System nehmen und drauf warten das mal ein x2 fähiger 64bit Kernel kommt und dann nochmal installieren. Also ich hab eigentlich ein "ja es geht", oder ein "nein geht nicht" erwartet aber nicht so ein rumgeeiere. Also hoffe ich, es mir Eurer Hilfe in den Griff zu bekommen, oder wenn es nicht dann garnicht hinzukriegen ist eine andere 64bit Distri. zu inst. von der ich eine Erfolgsmeldung mit AMD x2 + SLi mitbekomme. Vorsicht: Auch in der 32bit-Version gibt es default- und smp-Kernel!

ich habe bei Suse Geld bezahlt für die Distri. und kostenlosen Installationssupport. Ich bezahle für den 'kostenlosen' Installationssupport per 01805. Also denke ich das ein Systemhaus wie Suse, immerhin ja noch mit Novell im Rücken, schon wissen sollte ob Massen-Hardware wie eine CPU läuft. Denn wenn ich sie als Endkunde erwerben kann, dürfte sie in den Test-bzw. Entwicklungsabteilungen wohl schon ein alter Bekannter sein und eine klare Aussage sollte wohl möglich sein. alles erledigt, incl. KDE 3.4.1 und einiger ausgiebiger Downloads bei Packman... 1a geklappt. Da ich sehr gerne Musik höre und OGG-Vorbis (trotz der mangelhaften Unterstützung von MS) verwende, finde ich die Einbindung in Linux einfach mal Klasse... amaroK ist für mich die 'Killerapplikation' beim Musikabspielen. Beim "ernsthaften" Arbeiten gibt's Dank OpenOffice bei mir auch keine Probleme. Windows also nur noch zum Daddeln (So eine Art Wintedo halt). Wenn ich jetzt noch den x2 von der Leine lassen kann, bei den Suse-People habe ich in der Richtung nichts gefunden, bin ich mit meiner Computer-Welt zufrieden wie ein satter Säugling :-) Vielen Dank Dir und allen anderen! Kernel 2.6.12 sollte eigentlich (siehe Changelog) Unterstuetzung fuer AMD Dual-Core CPUs haben: "x86_64: Final support for AMD dual core". Es scheint aber trotz allem noch ein paar Probleme zu geben, was allerdings evtl. auch an den BIOS-Versionen diverser Hersteller liegen koennte und nur bedingt am Linux-System. Bei relativ neuen Mainboards ist immer vorsicht geboten und man sollte Ausschau nach BIOS-Updates halten! Cheers, Th.
Eine (ketzerische?) Frage habe ich nun doch noch fuer Peter: bist Du irgendwie ein Spezial-User, der die Leistung des X2 wirklich ausnutzen kann, oder bist Du nur ein "normaler" Heimanwender? Ich meine, die Artikel in der c't zeigen ja, dass man oft die Leistung des X2 gar nicht wirklich ausschoepfen kann zur Zeit, auf einem Desktop-System wahrlich nicht und selbst Spiele unter Win profitieren nur marginal. Was bewegt einem also dazu (ausser man kann das Potenzial wirklich ausschoepfen), eine X2 CPU im Preisbereich von 550 Euro (die billigste Variante mit 2.2.GHz) zu kaufen, wenn es auch ein normaler Athlon64 (1.8 GHz) mit Venice Kern (kann auch SSE3) fuer 150 Euro locker tun wuerde? Und selbst das ist fuer Heimanwender schon mehr als ausreichend Leistung. Das sind mal eben 400 Euro Preisunterschied, die evtl. fuer einen kaum spuerbaren Mehrwert ausgegeben wurden. Da sage ich persoenlich aber dann doch eher "Nein, Danke..." (falls Du irgendwie Dein Geld loswerden moechtest, ich wuerde mich da als Abnehmer anbieten :-). Oder wie sieht das bei Dir aus (rein interessenhalber)? CU, Th.

Eine (ketzerische?) Frage habe ich nun doch noch fuer Peter: bist Du irgendwie ein Spezial-User, der die Leistung des X2 wirklich ausnutzen kann, oder bist Du nur ein "normaler" Heimanwender? Ich meine, die [...] Abnehmer anbieten :-). Oder wie sieht das bei Dir aus (rein interessenhalber)?

Hmmm :-)) Ich kaufe nicht allzu häufg PC's, meine PC-Geschichte (der Private Teil): Sinclair ZX 81 -> Atari Mega STE -> HP-Vectra VL -> Doityourself mit bekannter Ausstattung. Nur mal so, der Sinclair war ein Neukauf. Ich nehme mir also einfach die Zeit, auf die Anwendungen die den x2 auslasten zu warten. In der c't stand, wenn ich mich recht erinnere, auch das solche Anwendungen noch kommen werden. Die Entwicklung des Desktops zum 3D basierenden Leistungsvernichter läuft ja schon und da kann sich die zweite CPU/GPU dann um die wichtigen App's kümmern :-> Ich gebe lieber alle Jubeljahre mal richtig Geld aus, als im Aldi-Rhythmus Einzukaufen. Nun, bis es so weit ist, dass eine zweite CPU (bzw. ein zweiter Kern) auf dem Desktop wirklich nötig ist, vergeht aber noch etwas Zeit. Mein XP 3200+ werkelt derzeit auf 1,1GHz heruntergetaktet vor sich hin, und trotz "leistungsvernichtendem (KDE-)Desktop" liegt die Last bei 2-4%. Nur wenn der gcc läuft merkt man ein wenig, dass da Leistung fehlt. Selbst der Unterschied bei einem 3D-Shooter (z.B. ET/TCE) zum voll getakteten (2,2 GHZ) Athlon liegt nur bei 5-10 FPS.
Ich gebe lieber alle Jubeljahre mal richtig Geld aus, als im Aldi-Rhythmus Einzukaufen.
Das bringt meiner Meinung nach gerade im Hardwarebereich wenig. Das was ich heute teuer bezahlt habe bekomme ich morgen für die Hälfte. Warum soll ich dann auch noch für Leistung bezahlen, die ich (jetzt) nicht brauche?

Mit der Einstellung machst Du dann aber immer Verluste :-) Denn wenn es die Anwendungen gibt, die die CPU richtig auslasten, kostet sie wahrscheinlich im Handel nur noch die Haelfte oder ein Drittel des jetzigen Preises. Bei einem PC Kauf wuerde ich persoenlich nie das allerneuste kaufen und auch immer ein Leistungspotenzial, das ich *momentan* brauche, denn fuer die Zukunft investieren hat IMHO beim PC-Markt keinen Sinn... Und es ist, ich habe das wirklich mal nachgerechnet, Deine Strategie auf laengere Sicht gesehen doch deutlich teurer. Sorry, das wird langsam arg OT. Jeder muss natuerlich bei einem PC-Kauf fuer sich selbst entscheiden, wie er vorgehen will :-) Gruesse aus UK, Thomson
Ich finde, daß es durchaus genug Gründe gibt, sich einen X2 zu kaufen. Nur weil Spiele noch nicht vom zweiten Kern profitieren, ist das für mich kein Argument dagegen. Es gibt viele Leute, die für Seti (oder Ähnliches) Rechnen - die haben schlagartig die doppelte Rechenleistung, weil sie mehrere Instanzen laufen lassen können. Wissenschaftliche Rechnungen dauern auch immer zu lange, sodaß auch hier Rechenzeit nie genug sein kann. Audio und Video Codierer warten nur noch die halbe Zeit. Programmierer compilieren sehr viel schneller - trifft auch auf den gemeinem Linuxanwender zu, der sich Software aus den Quellen erstellt. Raytracing (Povray) kann man notfalls die Szenen teilen lassen, damit 2 Instanzen gleichzeitig rechnen... Das ganze macht der X2 dann auch noch mit wesentlich weniger Verlustleistung, als zwei einzelne CPUs und ist dank Cool'n'Quiet im Leerlauf genauso sparsam, wie ein einzelner Athlon64. Ich habe bestimmt nicht alle Vorteile aufgezählt... Welches sind denn die Nachteile? Der Preis? Das man auf nen aktuelleren Kernel für Suse9.3 warten muß? Gruß Michael
