Very likely. In perl packages sometimes there is a similar looking authors line in the upstream description. The one with dashes was autogenerated by some suse tool. If you want, I can edit descriptions of spec files in obs in order to have "matching" signatures with the hope that mantainers accept such change. They are not so many, so it should not take a lot of time.

Anyway, how can I/we check that translation is  actually used by rpm/zypper/yast? My doubt is that removing Authors from the description, then there is a mismatch between the actual description and the msgid in the .mo file. What is the actual doubt? It all works like in other software: changing package source will change the .pot-file (after translation

2011/8/30 Andrea Turrini : source rebuild), which in turn changes .po-file (after translation), and that in turn changes displayed texts (after descriptions rebuild). I prefer to "fix" them, so I do not hurt authors ;-)

Anyway, how can I/we check that translation is actually used by rpm/zypper/yast? My doubt is that removing Authors from the description, then there is a mismatch between the actual description and the msgid in the .mo file. zypp doesn't use .mo files directly and the code that prepares the files for zypp strips authors. I'll submit a new version
