Hi list, I'm trying to re-configure sendmail with some additional features. So I edited linux.mc and did the m4-command. Now the system complains, that it can't find several .m4-files One of the errors is: /etc/mail/linux.mc:173: m4: Cannot open /usr/share/sendmail/hack/use_names.m4: No such name or directory Hmm, checked my system and found that there really is no such file on the whole disk. Where can I get this file from ? Maybe the reason is that I updated the sendmail some time ago with rpm. What now ? Thanks in advance.

Hi Stephan, I think the original (your dist must be SuSE-6.2) looks like the one I've enclosed below. Did you change the lines containing "use_names" to reflect a configuration option instead of a comment? If you do so, it's up to you to check if the necessary macros are available. If I were you I'd remove the sendmail package and install the one from SuSE-6.4 (poor man's upgrade) (Recompiling might be necessary.). dnl dnl "use_ip" is a list of IP addresses that are allowed to relay mail. dnl "use_names" is a list of domain names that are allowed to relay mail. dnl If your host accepts non-local email as relay for other sites, use dnl "use_relayto" to specify those sites. dnl To ban unauthorized relay, you have to use one or more of "use_ip", dnl "use_names" and "use_relayto".
