Re: Version of firewals.rpm for 2.4.x
Hi,
Do you have a version of firewals.rpm for the 2.4.x kernels? I'm currently running suse 7.0, but until I upgrade to 7.1 I'd like to use the latest kernel. Are there also user space tools that I need to get?
1) it is not recommended to use the 2.4 kernel for security purposes yet. 2) the 2.4 kernel supports old ipchains-based scripts like susefirewall if they are kernel-2.4 aware (get susefirewall v4.3 from www.suse.de/~marc) 3) susefirewall2 will be for the 2.4 kernel. first alpha end of this week Greets, Marc -- Marc Heuse, SuSE GmbH, Schanzaeckerstr. 10, 90443 Nuernberg E@mail: marc@suse.de Function: Security Research and Advisory PGP: "lynx -source http://www.suse.de/~marc/marc.pgp | pgp -fka" Key fingerprint = B5 07 B6 4E 9C EF 27 EE 16 D9 70 D4 87 B5 63 6C Private: http://www.suse.de/~marc SuSE: http://www.suse.de/security

You say this just because the susefirewall2 is not ready yet, or there are other reasons/concerns? Just to clear my question, what I want to know is if there are addicional reasons for you say that. [ ]'s bacano

The reason is simple - the 2.4 network code has been heavily modified or rewritten. It takes a while to audit all this new stuff.
