OpenSSH on SuSE 6.3 --> 'PAM adding faulty module: /lib/security/pam_pwcheck.so'
Hi! I've updated one of my older linux servers running SuSE 6.3 to openssh (2.3.0p1) from "the" ssh. Now I have the following entries in messages each time a user logs in: May 27 16:47:25 r100 sshd[16621]: PAM unable to dlopen(/lib/security/pam_pwcheck.so) May 27 16:47:25 r100 sshd[16621]: PAM [dlerror: /lib/security/pam_pwcheck.so: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory] May 27 16:47:25 r100 sshd[16621]: PAM adding faulty module: /lib/security/pam_pwcheck.so What is 'pam_pwcheck.so' for? My SuSE 7.0 box does have one. Yast did not show any unfulfilled dependencies. Hi!
I've updated one of my older linux servers running SuSE 6.3 to openssh (2.3.0p1) from "the" ssh. Now I have the following entries in messages each time a user logs in:
May 27 16:47:25 r100 sshd[16621]: PAM unable to dlopen(/lib/security/pa m_pwcheck.so) May 27 16:47:25 r100 sshd[16621]: PAM [dlerror: /lib/security/pam_pwcheck.so: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory] May 27 16:47:25 r100 sshd[16621]: PAM adding faulty module: /lib/security/pam_pwcheck.so
What is 'pam_pwcheck.so' for? My SuSE 7.0 box does have one. Yast did not show any unfulfilled dependencies.
When I upgraded to openSSH I found that using the pam.rpm from 6.4 stopped the errors and, so far, I haven't had any failures because of it. The x86 RPM is at: URL:ftp://ftp.suse.com/pub/suse/i386/6.4/a1/pam.rpm HTH Regards, David Bolt -- A3010 4Mb RiscOS 3.11 |Member of the RC5 Team Acorn AMD Duron/650 384Mb Win98 & SuSE 7.0 |cracking keys at 4.8Mkeys/sec AMD K6-2/450 32Mb SuSE 6.3 | AMD K6-2/500 32Mb SuSE 6.3 |http://www.distributed.net/

The whole thing with openssh on 6.3 is a bit problematic. We have
published an update a while ago as a service to the users (6.3 did not
contain openssh) which was a backport of the openssh package to the 6.3
distribution. The package wasn't properly tested, and updates for the 6.3
distribution may be unlikely.
Thanks,
Roman.

Hi! Thanks for your anwers, but I still don't know what 'pam_pwcheck.so' is for. Are there any problems going on with these errors about the missing module or should I better use the pam package shipped with 6.4? Any suggestions?
