How can I use/activate https?
- create SSL keys and certificates or buy them from an CA - put the keys into an arbitrary directory - set the paths in /etc/httpd/httpd.conf to these keys - install mod_ssl - in section <VirtualHost _default_:443> in httpd.conf set SSLEngine on - reload apache
How can I set up an virtual https:// site?
If you are talking about name based virtual hosts, you can't. Why not?
- Client connects to the https port
- The webserver has to answer this request with the correct SSL key; this
happens _before_ the client has sent it's request (containing the
"Host: www.xxx.com" line necessary for virtual servers).
- The server cannot answer the request with the correct key, because it
does not yet know which server was accessed
I have heard of a couple of semi-solutions for this problem; I did not
like any of these.
There is no problem setting up multiple ip based virtual hosts; just
create
