list, I'm trying to sign the certificate-request in the following way; # mount /floppy # cd ~/certs linux:~/certs # openssl ca -policy policy_anything -in /floppy/request.rec \ -out /floppy/request.cer Using configuration from /usr/share/ssl/openssl.cnf Enter PEM pass phrase: /floppy/request.rec: No such file or directory 1639:error:02001002:system library:fopen:No such file or directory:bss_file.c:245:fopen('/floppy/request.rec','r') 1639:error:20074002:BIO routines:FILE_CTRL:system lib:bss_file.c:247: linux:~/certs # What's wrong here? // glenn

Hi Glenn,
/floppy/request.rec: No such file or directory
This line shows that the file you arte trying to sign doesnt exist. If you generated it with ssh sentinel, the filename may be request.req (note the q instead of c at the end). simply do a "ls -lA /floppy" and check the filename. cya Jörn ------------------------------------------------------------ Jörn Ott Telefon: (0 22 24) 94 08 - 73 EDV Service & Beratung Telefax: (0 22 24) 94 08 -74 Lohfelder Str. 33 E-Mail: mailto:white@ott-service.de 53604 Bad Honnef WWW: http://www.ott-service.de/

You tell openssl to open the file /floppy/request.rec in order to sign it. Obviously the file is not there. (Why did you name it ".rec", typically requests are named ".req". Well, doesn't matter anyway, we are not using Windows here...) Excuse for barging in, hopefully I won't embarrass myself. This morning I played with self-signing ssl certs, mod_ssl has a very good FAQ in /usr/share/doc/packages/mod_ssl/ssl_faq.html, which says how to sign csrs. "Due to some funnies with openssl ..." or some such it said to use the shell script sign.sh for this. The script is in apache-1.3.23-137.src.rpm, mod_ssl-2.8.7-1.3.23.tar.bz2. It worked as is. Would this solve your problem too? Volker -- Volker Kuhlmann is possibly list0570 with the domain in header http://volker.orcon.net.nz/ Please do not CC list postings to me.
