is it possible to change the Mailer information in der EMailheader from Sendmail 8.xx to a other Name? So, i dont wont that somebody knows my Mailprogramm and version by simply read the mailheader.
thats security by obscurity and not usefull
<noflame> Ähhh??? The term you quoted is exactly right and not e.g. "security TRIED by obscurity" or anyway. So that means it works and can by a part of security appliance, albeit it cant be the main pillar. </noflame> Yours Michael

You depends on what your talking about. You can change your sendmail.cf to broadcast whatever you want as the MTA version. My office mate changed his to Atari 800XL :) But the MUA version is put in by your MUA. Such as Mutt. Mine has X-Info: Mutt 1.4i-SuSE LINUX 8.1 and I can change it to whatever I want in the .muttrc. :) But I don't know about your MUA..and there is a difference between the two. -- Ben Rosenberg ---===---===---===--- mailto:ben@whack.org Tell me what you believe.. I tell you what you should see.

Some time ago i thought of security by obsourity as a part of security polices. Hiding Banners from Services is one of the things we did. The result was that no 'scriptkiddie' tried to do some nasty stuff, BUT we hat a lot more direct attacks on that network, just ppl they tried to find out what we use etc. They didn't sucseed but we had a lot of more work with that. Thats why i not longer 'support' this way to get security. So no need to add noflame tags, was just a note on my comment and now i don't want to kill you ;) Have fun!
