Hi Lars,
hi,
since i've installed suse 7.0 my windows ftp-client is transferring datas only in passive mode. with suse 6.3 the same ftp-client was transfering in normal/active mode.
why did suse 7.0 always entering the passive mode? where can i activate the active/normal mode?
thx lars
The change (if it has been made intentionally, didn't check the
changelogs) is quite reasonable because people run into trouble with the
PORT mode of the ftp protocol due to the fact that the server opens a tcp
connection to the client. This is problematic since firewall admins
usually want exactly the opposite. The passive mode, the client opens the
data connection to the server, and since most servers don't care about the
data connection's source IP address, it is possible to tunnel the control
connection through a port forwarder such as stunnel or even ssh.
To turn passive mode off, try `passive´.
