Hello guys Recently i made a huge :) upgrade into a server from Redhat 5 to SuSE 8.1. I used the /ets/sysconfig/SuSEfirewall2 to make iptable rules and everything works fine except the speed. I mean that the machine is running really slow after running the firewall. I have open the following services-ports (tcp and utp): 10000 169 22 25 3128 3306 42 443 53 80 http https ssh which means that on this machine i am running bind, apache, mysql, ssh, mail The same services was running on the x-server and it was much faster than this (more than 300% faster!) Any suggestions?

How much memory is in that box? Most of those services use more memory today than they did when RedHat 5 came out (1997?). Check 'top', sort by memory. My guess is that insmod'ing the iptables modules was the drop that made the cup overflow. Either add more memory to the box or start tuning.
