How to report problems with the SuSEfirewall (firewals.rpm)
Hi Nick, (cc: to suse-security -> everyone else who sends me mails with the firewals.rpm problems - please see below - how to send in problem/bug reports! - and please first try the ftp server of SuSE if there's a newer rpm update for firewals and see if that works! current update rpm version is v1.4, current beta is v1.8)
I had some trouble with version 1.4 (multiple messages during booting plus a few others because of the old ipfwadm (I did an suse upgrade from 6.0 to 6.3)) so I installed ver 1.8. Now the booting looks much cleaner but I suspect that now some errors are being created in the rule database.
but did everything work with v1.4?
After setting things up in the new /etc/rc. file I could not get on the internet from my lan anymore. I could ping the firewall but not the gateway. Only after disabling the filter and echo 1 into ip_forward allowed me to send this message to you (from my other computer on my lan). I had not these problems with the old version 1.4. I checked with gfcc what happened with the rules (apparantly, this is ok) but writing anything with gfcc blocks the use of all network connections?
Do you have any idea?
hey, I don't have got psionic powers ;-) please send me the output of the following stuff: "grep ^FW /etc/rc.firewall" "ipchains -L -nv" "route -n" "ifconfig -a" and an exact description what does not work. Please note that there's no support from SuSE for the firewals package (except if you are paying for professional support) - however I help everyone as best as I can. But because I'm often busy, this might take some time - but normally not.
