Hi @ll, have a lame question : Is this Hardware enough for about 100 Users ( guessing less than 100 ) : CPU => Intel PII 650 MHz RAM => 512 MB HDDs => IDE 13GB Regards / Gruß Bruno
Hi, what type of proxy?!? Squid?!? Well then I think it is enough - I have a Pentium 166, 128MB, 4GB for about 30 Users and it is still comfortable, bandwidth is 100MBit... (well its DFN...;) Greetz Christoph BTW: Is this security related?!?

i am using a p3 1 gigahertz with a 36 gig scsi drive and 1 gig of ram for almost 500 users and that machine is way more than enough. i also have a smaller enviroment with a p3 733, 512 meg of ram and 20 gig ide drive that i just installed a few days ago and it seems to be working fine for about 120 users on average. i am running suse 7.3, kernel 2.4.18 and squid 2.4.stable6 on both machines. the processor will not be your bottleneck, the hard drive will. go scsi if you can, if not, get a separate disk for the cache dir preferably 7200 rpm, ata100 and use rieserfs with the notail and noatime mount commands. Hi We use a P3 866 with 128M RAM, 9GB HDD, also does squidGuard, sarg (every half hour), iptables packet filtering, DNS server. Our bandwidth to our DMZ web servers is about 700MB a day, we have 80 users going through the squid proxy and this is the uptime: 4:53pm up 1 day, 17:47, 1 user, load average: 0.12, 0.06, 0.07 61 processes: 59 sleeping, 2 running, 0 zombie, 0 stopped CPU states: 0.1% user, 0.1% system, 0.0% nice, 99.6% idle Mem: 126376K av, 123536K used, 2840K free, 0K shrd, 39656K buff Swap: 265032K av, 12472K used, 252560K free 12152K cached PID USER PRI NI SIZE RSS SHARE STAT %CPU %MEM TIME COMMAND 1080 squid 19 0 1260 1064 304 S 0.1 0.8 0:56 squidGuard Ray PS: It went down 2 days ago due to our wonderful power provider doing 'unscheduled maintainence' on the local transformers. The UPS lasted 2 hours before it lost power. On Fri, 2002-08-23 at 15:59, BLeonhardt@analytek.de wrote:
