Good morning, I just delete the password entry in /var/yp/src/shadow, do a make and change the password with <passwd> as root by leaving 'Old Password:' empty and put in the new one. That is the only way it works that I found. Greetings, Kurt

This unpleasant problem happens on 8.2 as well. I'm not certain, but I believe it started happening a few weeks after we upgraded to 8.2, so maybe it was caused by a security upgrade. Or maybe some SuSEconfig mischief.
