Did you make sure that the last character of each file is a newline?

Just doublechecked it - maybe I am too stupid but I still got a segfault. If I do not use IP address but hostname I get the following: ***/etc/hosts.allow: in.telnetd : xxx <newline> ***hosts.deny: in.telnetd : ALL <newline> ***standardout from tcpdchk: warning: /etc/hosts.allow, line 1: xxxx: hostname alias warning: /etc/hosts.allow, line 1: (official name: xxx.xxx.de) warning: /etc/hosts.allow, line 1: host address ::ffff:XXX.XXX.XXX.XX->name lookup failed where x stand for the name and X for the IP Question: ::fff:.... <= isn't that a IPv6 address?!? The prob seems to be in hosts.allow since hosts.deny for its own doesn't make any trouble. Christoph -- .-.
