You can use the packet filter within the kernel. ipchains is the tool for 2.2.x kernel. You have to specify to deny/reject all incoming packets on the pop port which do not have 127.0.0.1 as the address. There are examples in the ipchains-HowTo. The German c't had an article in number 17 (?) last year about using ipchains. HTH Frank
