SCP from Server to Server without Password ??
Hi we have two servers running Suse Linux 7.1. Now we need to write a script that copies all files in a directory from one server to the other server. We do that with "scp". I´ve read that i can switch of the ugly password-questions by generating ssh keys at both servers and copying the public keys to each other server. I did so, but the password-questions are still there. Does anyone know how to install the keys at the right position and what to do to get this running ? Is there a tutorial or a description how to make an automated copying from one server to another without password (via ssh?) ? Hi Jens, yes, there is a manual, it's called man pages.
From the man pages:
The public key method is similar to RSA authentication described in the previous section except that the DSA or RSA algorithm is used instead. The client uses his private key $HOME/.ssh/id_dsa to sign the session identifier and sends the result to the server. The server checks whether the matching public key is listed in $HOME/.ssh/authorized_keys2 and grants access if both the key is found and the signature is correct. The session identifier is derived from a shared Diffie-Hellman value and is only known to the client and the server. So place your public key in the authorized_keys2 file on the destination machine and - if you want to login as root - add PermitRootLogin yes to the file /etc/ssh/sshd_config on the destination server. That's it. Cheers, Ralf
