Thanks for the info...
What other(s) good secure could be recommended, as this seems to BSD
based & I need it to run on Suse7.3 or RH 7.2 distro's.
BSD is not in my company to use.

it will work on redhat and suse. just get the source from http://www.openwall.com/popa3d/ and compile and install it. Its GPL software just like most other linux software. The whole BSD thing is just that OpenBSD is going to include it in their 3.0 distribution and if its not secure they wouldnt include it. On Fri, 21 Dec 2001 andrei@easynet.co.uk wrote:

Actually the BSD license is different from the GPL - sufficiently different that a lot of GPL-based distributions don't feel that it is "usable". Something about requiring a long litany of names on the box and in any advertising. It is, however, still an open- source license. <Excessive quoted stuff deleted> Bear
Even if it were BSD license how would that affect you? In fact the BSD license gives end users even more freedom/"protection" then the GPL, the GPL is designed to protect programmers (i.e. people don't steal their code), whereas the BSD protects end users more (here, use the code, or take the code and modify/sell it, whatever, just leave the notice on it). Both have their place. If you're gonna bash licenses at least get a clue first. Kurt Seifried, kurt@seifried.org A15B BEE5 B391 B9AD B0EF AEB0 AD63 0B4E AD56 E574 http://www.seifried.org/security/

I apologize if it sounded like I was bashing licenses. I *like* that there are a bunch of different opensource licenses, and I like the BSD license as well as the GPL. They're just not the same, is all.

The distinction between the two is mainly relevant to programmers; know which distributions like what licenses, and don't mess up by releasing an improved version of something under a license you don't have permission to release it under.
Both have their place.
Agreed. That is a good reason for people to avoid confusing them with each other. Ray
