Hi everyone I have a router with a PUBLIC IP connected with a Linux Box through of a crossover cable. On the Ethernet card there are multiple PUBLIC IPs configured with ALIASING. My question is: Can the router ping these IP's or only the main IP?
It really depends on your setup. However if the interface on the router with that has a public ip is on the same network as your Linux box then it should be able to ping the linux ips however this brings you a problem you will not be able to ping any other ips on that network. Here is what I am saying: INternet | router [ ethernet 2 public ip] [thernet 1 public ip] | cross over cable Linux Box [ Multiple public ips] Now lets say ethernet 2 has 195.131.4.2 and say ethernet 1 has 195.120.5.2 and the linux box has 195.120.5.x ips then the router as far as it is cncerned is directly connected to the 192.120.5 netowrk through ethernet 1 and will send all packets for that network through that interface even if the default route is through ethernet 2.
