IMAP Server II and security updates
Hi all, I've got a question regarding the SuSE-IMAP-Server II. Do all security related updates apply to this version of SUSE, too? Did anyone upgrade SuSE-EMail Server to SuSE 7.1? Did anyone upgrade to Kernel > 2.4 (i.e. 2.4.2.SuSE-5 ?) Thanks a lot for your help, Martin -- GiS - Gesellschaft fuer integrierte Systemplanung mbH Martin Sckopke Tel. +49-6201-503-74 Junkersstr. 2 Fax +49-6201-503-66 D-69469 Weinheim m.sckopke@gis-systemhaus.de

I upgraded my ("ordinary", not IMAP-Server) SuSE 7.1 to 2.4.2.SuSE-5. But after installing the new Kernel (compiled with the same settings as the pre-built 2.4.0), some modules didn't load anymore - just a silly message is being shown : "Kernel version mismatch - module was built for kernel 2.4.2-4GB while this is kernel 2.4.2." At home I had a similar problem, but the other way around: "... module was built for kernel 2.4.2 while this is kernel 2.4.2-4GB" Any suggestions ? Some or all modules? Did you make new modules and did you installed them? (make modules; make modules_install) ?? Mit freundlichen Gren Ralf Eisinger ------------------- IHS - University of Stuttgart, Germany Pfaffenwaldring 10 70150 Stuttgart Phone: (0049)-711-685-3201

Only on some modules (sound modules and nvidia glx, which I don't really need on the servers, but it annoys me that there's ANY module that doesn't work.)

Sure ;) There's some other strange thing: When I recompiled 2.4.0 (from lx_suse) the module's directory was /lib/2.4.0 (after that, glx didn't complain about wrong kernel version anymore), after recompiling 2.4.2 it's 2.4.2-4GB. Both's kernel compile options where the same regarding the memory. I even deleted the old tree. Björn Engels (better signature ?)

I ran into the problem when I had to disable the VIA chipset driver in my kernel. The source did install modules into the 2.4.0-4GB directory, but the modules were for kernel 2.4.0. I have "solved" this problem by changing the version string in linux/include/linux/version.h to "2.4.0-4GB". After recompiling and installing everything it was then working without problems. I already have transferred the new kernel 2.4.2 to a CD-RW and will try it this evening. I am already prepared to re-install ALSA from source due to the version number... Since the discussion went a little bit of topic, I'll try to ask a little more specific: For the IMAP-Server SuSE supplies a product called 'Enterprise Linux'. Do the updates supplied for 7.0 apply to this version of Suse-Linux, or are there different updates available?
