Latest git has some monitor detection changes, that might help (or make
things worse). Also, you might want to add 'Vritual' like described in
the wiki on http://wiki.x.org/wiki/radeonhd

Today I tried the latest version of radeonhd from git. I wanted to setup a big desktop consisting of 2 monitors: Sony CPD-E400E CRT at DVI-I_1/analog (DVI-connector) and IBM T56A TFT at DVI-I_2/analog (VGA-connector). The configuration as shown in the attached xorg.conf-file failed. Only the IBM-TFT starts, but the Sony-CRT goes to power saving mode. Now I tried to invert the configuration: IBM-TFT --> DVI-I_1/analog, Sony-CRT --> DVI-I_2/analog. Now the Sony-CRT shows a picture and the IBM-TFT goes to power saving mode. Finally I tried the Sony-CRT alone at each connector, definitely at DVI-I_1/analog it doesn't show a picture. What's going wrong? I send you my Xorg.0.log, xorg.conf and the dump of my VGA-BIOS. What connection combination have you used for this particular log?
(II) RADEONHD: version 0.0.4, built from git branch master, commit da4783c9
Again, da4783c9 is unknown. Can someone please convince the packager
that having the patches in an own git is a very bad idea, if he uses the
standard git_version.sh for extracting the version number?

Given the number of lines in a typical Xorg.0.log, we could easily add the summaries of the latest 10 or 20 commits there. Interested? -- Hans Ulrich Niedermann

On the one hand I'm very interested in that - have been from the
beginning. On the other hand, others don't like the idea. I don't know
why, though.
But if the driver is packaged, 10 or 20 commits can easily not be enough
at some point of time, so packager should always change git_version.sh
so that the git commit number in the log points to the latest *upstream*
git version (+ local changes). If they want they can easily add the git
number of their local git repro in the log message as well.

Urgh. RHD_DDC_1 failed! This is terrible. We have another report where DDC on R600 is not completely stable. Will look into this. The fixed connector table has been pushed now. Standard issue with RandR. Seems the standard mode selection code is ...
suboptimal. I would even call it broken.
Changing that during runtime (xrandr --output VGA_1 --auto) should work
fine. If --auto doesn't do it, try --mode 1280x800.

In my last mail I wrote: There is still one little problem. The TFT @ VGA_1 goes to resolution 1280x800@60, but the perfect resolution should be 1024x768@60. There is no way to change this. With the latest radeonhd from git (commit b991fe3d) I got both displays at 1024x768@60. Trying to change this doesn't work. With the latest radeonhd from git (commit b991fe3d) I got both displays at 1024x768@60. Trying to change this doesn't work. As xrandr ---query --verbose returns with BadMatch (invalid parameter attributes), I got a newer xrandr from git.
The new xrandr should be able to impose the correct resolution with
xrandr --output DVI-I_1/analog --auto
If it doesn't, try switching it off with --off instead of --auto first.
That this different (IMHO wrong) resolution is chosen at startup is a
standard RandR problem.
