you need radeon driver version 6.8.0 at least. It's possible the pci id is missing from the driver, but it should work if we add it.

I tried it just now just to be sure, and no dice. (I also tried "xrandr -o left" under a normal "radeonhd"-powered GNOME session just now, and what's odd is that it gives no error message like under "fglrx", just... nothing happens.)

for randr 1.2 drivers it's preferable to use the the randr 1.2 API for rotation as you can have multiple outputs, so in your case: xrandr --output LVDS --rotate left

Alex: by "SW" do you mean "software?" I've tried looking for software solutions for this issue before, but it's tough to find anything up-to-date.
