Hrm, why would it be hanging. Since there is a 2 week gap now (my apologies for that), and there have been a decent number of fixes to the driver, can you try pulling a new git version? If our code really was looping over a broken connector table, then I do not think there was any change that could influence this, but we better start from a new baseline :) Thanks, Luc Verhaegen. Could it be that you have a "PreferredMode" option set in your config
file? This produced an endless loop deep inside RandR. This is
(partially) fixed in xserver git now.

Hi Luc, I tried again with today's git snapshot, still no luck. X just seems to hang on startup. I've attached the log, it doesn't look much different than before though. Let me know if there's anything else I can do to help debug. Thanks, James Slagle

Can you run Xorg -logverbose 7 and post the log from that? Thanks, Luc Verhaegen. SSUE/Novell X Driver Developer. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: radeonhd+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: radeonhd+help@opensuse.org

James, I just noticed that you are still running: (II) RADEONHD: version 0.0.4, built from git branch master, commit 732dea0e Is this correct? Also, have you been running fglrx recently? Could it be that there is still a kernel module loaded? Luc Verhaegen. Yes, it was. For whatever reason, git-pull/make/make install was not working, so I started from a fresh git repo. It still results in a black screen when X goes to start.

Yes, but before using the radeonhd driver, I unload the fglrx module from a shell when X is stopped. I've attached the latest log. Thanks, James Slagle

You have to reboot first. Fglrx does not leave the hardware in the same state as it received it. Luc Verhaegen. SUSE/Novell X Driver Developer. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: radeonhd+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: radeonhd+help@opensuse.org

Sorry, I didn't know that. Ok, so I renamed the fglrx module and verified that it couldn't be loaded by trying it with modprobe. Then I rebooted, using radeonhd. This time, the screen did flicker twice for a second, and I saw my desktop, but then it immediately went to just a black screen again. I was able to switch to and use one of the virtual consoles (alt-F6) this time however. I've attached the log. Thanks, James Slagle

Does the monitor go into standby? Or did it remain active and just show a black screen. Does the monitors OSD report a resolution and some frequencies? Luc Verhaegen. Hello, I apologize for the delay...I have been away for the holiday break. I tried again with the latest from git. It is the same result, just a brief flicker, and then a black screen. It seems the monitor is in standby, it is powered on, but the backlight (lcd) is not on. I can not get the OSD to come up. If I power cycle the monitor, the backlight comes on, and there are some horizontal lines flickering across the screen ocassionally. It just looks like various lines of pixels lighting up, it doesn't look like an image or desktop or anything. If I try to bring up the OSD at that point, the monitor goes black again, with the backlight shutting off immediately, so I can't even get into the OSD to see what resolution is reported. I've attached the X log. Thanks, James Slagle
