Hi, my Radeon 1300 card has problems since (I think) the merge of the Xrandr code, this one: 01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: ATI Technologies Inc RV516 [Radeon X1300/X1550 Series] 01:00.1 Display controller: ATI Technologies Inc RV516 [Radeon X1300 Pro] (Secondary) 01:00.0 0300: 1002:7183 01:00.1 0380: 1002:71a3 Generates this difference in Xorg.conf with recent gits (including 1.0.0 tag): +SetGrabKeysState - disabled +SetGrabKeysState - enabled +(II) 3rd Button detected: disabling emulate3Button +SetGrabKeysState - disabled +(II) Open ACPI successful (/var/run/acpid.socket) +(II) RADEONHD(0): Setting up "1440x900" (1440x900@60.0Hz) +(EE) RADEONHD(0): TMDSBVoltageControl: unhandled chipset: 0x7183. +(II) RADEONHD(0): LVTMA_MACRO_CONTROL: 0x04420403 +(II) RADEONHD(0): Shutting down TMDS A +(II) RADEONHD(0): Shutting down DAC B +(II) <default pointer>: ps2EnableDataReporting: succeeded +SetGrabKeysState - enabled +SetGrabKeysState - disabled +(II) Open ACPI successful (/var/run/acpid.socket) +(II) RADEONHD(0): Setting up "1440x900" (1440x900@60.0Hz) +(EE) RADEONHD(0): TMDSBVoltageControl: unhandled chipset: 0x7183. +(II) RADEONHD(0): LVTMA_MACRO_CONTROL: 0x04420403 +(II) RADEONHD(0): Shutting down TMDS A +(II) RADEONHD(0): Shutting down DAC B +(II) <default pointer>: ps2EnableDataReporting: succeeded +SetGrabKeysState - enabled +SetGrabKeysState - disabled See if I can patch this to work (hm, wonder if this is dangerous, nevermind...) Generates this difference in Xorg.conf with recent gits (including 1.0.0 tag):
Nah forget that I got the wrong file, the diff was actually several miles long, the log on a failure ends abruptly with: ... (II) Loading sub module "ddc" (II) LoadModule: "ddc"(II) Module already built-in (II) RADEONHD(0): Detected VGA mode. No more messages after that. (Full log attached.) The screen dies, switching back to a root terminal with Ctrl+Alt+F1 and typing "reboot" will work so it doesn't crash the kernel, but I cannot see anything. Linus

Your driver is dead old, you run 0.0.2, we have 1.0.0 now.

Yeah I saw that print in the log but I still pull new code from git every day and recompile it. I think it's really just the stamp that is wrong, but I'll pull out a clean git and see what happens. Now I have a fresh git checkout. The strange version numbering was probably due to the script picking up git tags needing regen from autogen.sh but whatever. It says: (II) RADEONHD: version 1.0.0, built from git branch master, commit e399d165 New problems however (full log attached), first: (WW) RADEONHD(0): DACBSenseCRT: connector type 4 is not supported. (that's VGA on the DMS-59 port numbered "1") Resulting in (I think): (EE) RADEONHD(0): RandR: No valid modes. Disabled. Then after loading xaa and some more it CRASHES: (II) RADEONHD(0): Using ShadowFB Backtrace: 0: /usr/bin/X(xf86SigHandler+0x6d) [0x47e8cd] 1: /lib64/libc.so.6 [0x3951830f30] 2: /usr/bin/X(xf86InitViewport+0x4b) [0x48009b] 3: /usr/bin/X(InitOutput+0xb61) [0x463491] 4: /usr/bin/X(main+0x275) [0x4330c5] 5: /lib64/libc.so.6(__libc_start_main+0xf4) [0x395181e074] 6: /usr/bin/X(FontFileCompleteXLFD+0x259) [0x432579] Fatal server error: Caught signal 11. Server aborting A bit strange, the backtrace does not seem to involve radeonhd at all... I'll try to get debug symbols into this so I can see what happens. Linus

No, connector 4 is TV. TV isn't supported yet. DMS-59 is reported as two VGA and/or DVI connectors.
Resulting in (I think): (EE) RADEONHD(0): RandR: No valid modes. Disabled.
Theoretically, we'd need a logfile for analysis, practically, this error is already known ATM. When fixed this might help you, but it might as well not.

No need to. There are no modes available at a point where *always* have
to be modes available.
Thanks

Atleast I'll wait for that fix before probing further, I'm doing fine with the old driver for the moment. Linus -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: radeonhd+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: radeonhd+help@opensuse.org

Matthias pushed up a fix for this today. Please retry. Thanks, Luc Verhaegen. SUSE/Novell X Driver Developer. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: radeonhd+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: radeonhd+help@opensuse.org

And of course it works like a charm, well done! There is still the occassional xRandR error, which is now however immediately followed by detection of the DMS-59 and success: (EE) RADEONHD(0): RandR: No valid modes. Disabled. (II) RADEONHD(0): Card Dell ATI Radeon X1300 has a DMS-59 connector. (...) Full log attached. Linus

This should be fixed with my last commit. Please test :)
