If that doesn't work, can you please run conntest as described in the README (with no/only one monitor attached)?
This looks a bit strange.

anything I can do to investigate I will do, but..
- in FreeBSD radeonhd port there is no conntest at all, no utils directory
O-key. Question is: why?
- when I run "make" (as root) in the xf86-video-radeonhd-1.0.0/utils/conntest directory (as written in the README) , I get only /usr/src/xf86-video-radeonhd-1.0.0/utils/conntest# make make: *** Keine Targets angegeben und keine »make«-Steuerdatei gefunden. Schluss.
You have to configure first.
- when I try to ./configure in the main xf86-video-radeonhd-1.0.0 directory so many other packages are expected I give up
No chance to compile otherwise. Typically an
apt-get install
I will go back to FreeBSD and send you more log and sysctl and pciconf data
That won't help. We really need conntest output to fix this :-(
P.S. Please keep this on the mailing list. Thanks

is enough to fix this. Eventually you need -devel packages as well, I don't remember how Debian packages are structured. I will go back to FreeBSD and send you more log and sysctl and pciconf data

just to give a feedback for now: - will try further, - but at the moment I am in a dead end, because (back to FreeBSD...): - I found out: because I used the FreeBSD-normal "make install clean" in one command , I missed a warning message from make, when I afterwards deleted the "work" directory and ran "make" alone , I got the warning: "WARNING: Cannot build the rhd_conntest programm due to missing dependancies. *IF* you want to build rhd_conntest, install development packages of both pciutils and zlib/libz and re-run the configure (or autogen) script" - installing both pciutils and zlib/libz did not help, and special development versions are not available for current and stable FreeBSD 7.0 according to www.freebsd.org Axel -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: radeonhd+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: radeonhd+help@opensuse.org

Apparently, pci/pci.h is included in the libpci package on FreeBSD. So
first install this package, if that doesn't help, do the following:
Please show me the output of
ls -al /usr/lib/libz.*
and
find /usr/include -name pci.h
This is probably close to bug #13497.

have been some days off, but now here are news: 1) have installed libpci "# pkg_info | grep libpci libpci-2.2.8_1 PCI configuration space I/O made easy" but that made no change. The steps you requested showed following: 2) "# ls -al /usr/lib/libz.* -r--r--r-- 1 root wheel 109650 Feb 24 10:40 /usr/lib/libz.a lrwxrwxrwx 1 root wheel 14 Mar 4 19:06 /usr/lib/libz.so -> /lib/libz.so.4" 3) "# find /usr/include -name pci.h # " BUT:! 4) a search gave "# find / -type f -name pci.h -print /usr/local/include/pci/pci.h /usr/ports/devel/libpci/files/pci.h" seems to be in another directory than expected, right?
