I feel bad posting this, because it seems like such an obvious question, but I'm looking for basic information on writing an xorg.config (or any other necessary driver setup) for the radeonhd driver for my Sapphire Radeon HD 3450. I have a kubuntu hardy box, just installed xserver-xorg-video-radeonhd, and have tried 'Driver "radeonhd"' and 'Driver "ati"' in the config -- in both cases X just complains "No devices detected". http://www.x.org/wiki/radeonhd is a good page, but it seems to have mostly advanced troubleshooting information (I'll worry about getting two monitors configured after I get one working! :-) Can anyone point me at a basic resource? thanks, --eric -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: radeonhd+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: radeonhd+help@opensuse.org

I got the same thing with my Sapphire 3870HD. And I eventually got past that by setting Option "HPD" "off" in my Device section (with driver of radeonhd). Note that setting HPD to "swap" (which is recommended over "off") didn't work for me, though it may for you. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: radeonhd+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: radeonhd+help@opensuse.org

No luck. I thought the HPD option was for detecting the monitor? As far as I can tell, what's happening for me is that the video card or driver is not found. This is my current config (note that the card works fine if I don't specify a driver): Section "Module" #Load "xv" EndSection Section "InputDevice" Identifier "Generic Keyboard" Driver "kbd" Option "XkbRules" "xorg" Option "XkbModel" "pc105" Option "XkbLayout" "us" EndSection Section "InputDevice" Identifier "Configured Mouse" Driver "mouse" Option "CorePointer" EndSection Section "Device" Identifier "Configured Video Device" # Driver "radeonhd" # Option "HPD" "off" EndSection Section "Monitor" Identifier "Configured Monitor" EndSection Section "Screen" Identifier "Default Screen" Monitor "Configured Monitor" Device "Configured Video Device" EndSection Section "ServerLayout" Identifier "Default Layout" Screen "Default Screen" EndSection thanks, --eric -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: radeonhd+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: radeonhd+help@opensuse.org
Just a ping -- I haven't been able to find an example xorg.conf, so I
have no idea if I'm even close to what I need. I just added the
'Driver "radeonhd"' line to the Device section.
Also fine would be a simple "there probably are no sample configs,
you're on your own, good luck", if that's the case. :-)
Thanks!

Well, I can't quarantee that this will work on your card, but my FireGL V5200 runs quite nicely with the following. I left out the InputDevice-parts... Section "Device" Identifier "InternalATI" Driver "radeonhd" VendorName "AMD/ATI" Option "AccelMethod" "shadowfb" Option "Monitor-PANEL" "Panel" Option "Monitor-VGA_1" "External" Option "RROutputOrder" "PANEL" EndSection Section "Monitor" Identifier "Panel" EndSection Section "Monitor" Identifier "External" Option "RightOf" "Panel" EndSection Section "Screen" Identifier "FixedPanel" Device "InternalATI" Monitor "Panel" DefaultDepth 24 SubSection "Display" Depth 24 Virtual 3520 1200 EndSubsection EndSection Section "ServerFlags" Option "AllowMouseOpenFail" "true" Option "AIGLX" "off" EndSection Section "ServerLayout" Identifier "DefaultLayout" InputDevice "FixedKbd" "CoreKeyboard" InputDevice "TouchPad" "CorePointer" InputDevice "TrackPoint" "SendCoreEvents" InputDevice "VXRev" "SendCoreEvents" Screen "FixedPanel" EndSection Section "Extensions" Option "Composite" "Off" EndSection Hope this might help, Vesa -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: radeonhd+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: radeonhd+help@opensuse.org
