If - and only if - your card does not work or does not work optimally please contact radeonhd@opensuse.org to help rectify this. Use the subject: 0x791E:0x1043:0x8287: <name of board> and *please* describe the problems you are seeing in your message.
I have yesterday/today tried to set up DRI for the radeonhd driver by following the guide at http://www.x.org/wiki/radeonhd:DRI Problems: Do not get DRI. drmOpenDevice cannot open /dev/dri/card0. Fall back on swrast_dri.so. No keyboard or mouse in X after reboot. Hardware: Asus P2-M2A690G, onboard ATI Radeon 1250, AMD Athlon64 X2 Dual Core 4800+ Software: Ubuntu Hardy 32-bit. Attached hereto for information: /usr/var/log/Xorg.0.log - generated after startx /var/log/dmesg - generated after subsequent reboot gitradeonhd.sh - the script I wrote to download and build everything. Remark: fglrx was working on this machine (but too buggy to be usable). Hope this helps. (Probably I've just overlooked something obvious.) I have yesterday/today tried to set up DRI for the radeonhd driver by following the guide at
http://www.x.org/wiki/radeonhd:DRI
Problems: Do not get DRI. drmOpenDevice cannot open /dev/dri/card0. Fall back on swrast_dri.so. No keyboard or mouse in X after reboot.
I have a very similar experience with an ASUS M2A-VM HDMI (ATI x1250) running Ubuntu Hardy 64-bit. In Xorg.0.log, after a block of lines like this: drmOpenDevice: node name is /dev/dri/card0 drmOpenDevice: open result is -1, (No such device or address) drmOpenDevice: open result is -1, (No such device or address) drmOpenDevice: Open failed drmOpenByBusid: Searching for BusID pci:0000:01:05.0 drmOpenDevice: node name is /dev/dri/card0 drmOpenDevice: open result is -1, (No such device) drmOpenDevice: open result is -1, (No such device) drmOpenDevice: Open failed drmOpenByBusid: drmOpenMinor returns -19 I see this (just as in Mike's Xorg.0.log): (EE) RADEONHD(0): RHDDRIVersionCheck: drmOpen("radeon", "") failed. (WW) RADEONHD(0): RHDDRIPreInit: Version check failed. Disabling DRI. And, just like Mike, I followed the Wiki and build most everything from git. (I also cooked up a script to download and build everything.) -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: radeonhd+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: radeonhd+help@opensuse.org

One thing is that the call that dumps info to the log occurs after the busId has been free'd, resulting in: (EE) RADEONHD(0): RHDDRIVersionCheck: drmOpen("radeon", "") failed. (WW) RADEONHD(0): RHDDRIPreInit: Version check failed. Disabling DRI. The patch below moves the xfree calls and fixes things so you get instead: (EE) RADEONHD(0): RHDDRIVersionCheck: drmOpen("radeon", "pci:0000:01:05.0") failed. (WW) RADEONHD(0): RHDDRIPreInit: Version check failed. I doubt this will be all that helpful, but I instrumented the latest git of xf86drm.c:drmOpenDevice(...) with a few more log file entries and I get blocks of entries like this: drmOpenDevice: node name is /dev/dri/card0 drmOpenDevice: remove (/dev/dri/card0) result is -1, (No such file or directory) drmOpenDevice: mknod (/dev/dri/card0) result is 0, (OK) drmOpenDevice: chown (/dev/dri/card0) result is 0, (OK) drmOpenDevice: chmod (/dev/dri/card0) result is 0, (OK) drmOpenDevice: stat (/dev/dri/card0) result is 0, (OK) drmOpenDevice: open result is -1, (No such device) drmOpenDevice: open result is -1, (No such device) drmOpenDevice: Open failed The code claims to create the node, change all the permissions and stat it successfully. However opening the special file fails. I assume this is your boot.msg. Please check your /var/log/messages,
whether drm (and radeon) is actually loaded. If it isn't, try to
explicitly load with 'modprobe radeon' (don't forget the depmod -a
first).
