2) Those lists function as a single collection from a search perspective. Thus, if want to find a post from Ted Tso about ext4, I can search all of the lists at once. Not run 100+ discrete searches.
Doesn't google help with that?
Only in the sense that I can then find out which list a relevant conversation is on. But then if I want to see a threaded view of the conversation, I need to fall back to gmane or similar. In general I find the working with opensuse archives very 10+ years ago. Compare that to this search for GregKH's post to the lkml collection: http://markmail.org/search/?q=gregkh You see a list of which lists he's most active in. You see a breakdown by year of how active he was. If you click on one of his messages you get a new view that helps you track down what your looking for: http://markmail.org/search/?q=gregkh#query:gregkh+page:1+mid:gyrtxc2i6u43ya4... I have no idea if markmail would add the full opensuse mailing list collection, but if they would it seems like a big step forward. Even better would be if they had a way to filter a search to just the opensuse collection. Yep, I see what you mean. I think the main issue is that the opensuse lists are not archived by a decent archiver, internally nor externally. -- Per Jessen, Zürich (14.8°C) -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-project+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-project+help@opensuse.org

In the just do it spirit, I just sent an email to the MarkMail support team asking that all the opensuse lists be added to their collection. I used my opensuse.org email address, so maybe they give me some credibility and actually do it. I also asked if there would then be a url we could link to from the wiki that allowed only the opensuse email archives to be searched. Here's hoping they help us out.
