[opensuse-project] EULA and suseStudio
Hello, I wish I took away a doubt: I created a version of the openSUSE suseStudio, called "Iguana". It's ready, but not yet publicly launched why not have a license (EULA). The Iguana has packages that are not GPL (Skype, Java, flash, mp3). My question is: Can I launch without a EULA? Basically, that is entirely up to you: the terms of service state that YOU are solely responsible for what you release. http://old-en.opensuse.org/SUSE_Studio_terms_of_use So it depends on your local laws and such... But I'm not a lawyer and as such I can't be trusted with legal stuff ;-) There is no limit from the openSUSE/Novell pov but you might be liable to a lawsuit - like eg Ubuntu Mint is. Up to you... grtz Jos
Thanks for attention,
Thanks Jos,
I will read the EULA for each software that worries me. I think this
is the safest thing to do.
Thanks again manolo! \o/

Hi Raul, I don't know much about legal stuff so I can't really help. My suggestion would be for you to contact the manufacturers/distributers of the software you have placed on your venture/project and gather the information. Try an email with the following: * Present yourself (short and brief) * Present your project, Iguana and it's goals (short and objective) * Expose the benefits for your audience, such as ease of usage, etc. * Present a valid roadmap for the future, just to make sure your project sounds credible. * Ask for advice and the possibility of including their software and specially how you can handle the licenses and what they would recommend. That might be the best approach to move on. If it becomes much of an hassle, imagine 'skype', then remove the package and on your page project, state that you would like to include package X, but the holder/manufacturer hasn't allowed you to and provide a link to the download. That's how I would do it. I have my survey site stalled because I'm also waiting for some info from LimeSurvey to get it properly done. Nelson. On Fri, 2010-09-10 at 16:52 -0300, Raul wrote:

If I was told you can not redistribute XYZ software and for whatever reason the author said that I could not then I would create an easy mechanism to install that software. e.g first time openSUSE updates are run it installs Adobe Flash Player. @Izabel I am not sure why that is needed there is no question that GPL, LGPL software can be distributed. It is the non-open software that is being asked about (I would say "free" software but what freedom is there if some people still argue that you can't link and or distribute some software against theirs?) -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-project+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-project+help@opensuse.org
