[opensuse-project] Strategy is Done!
hi all! As you might have read on http://news.opensuse.org we've finished the strategy document. It's been voted on, our membership liked it so for now, that's it. Of course - we'll surely look forward to input for future revisions! Greetings, The strategy team

Cool, good stuff. Next step is presumably to determine what we intend to _do_ with our strategy. Has anyone given that any thought already? -- Per Jessen, Zürich (23.1°C) -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-project+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-project+help@opensuse.org

Sorry? Doesn't one first have a GOAL in mind to start with and THEN goes about creating a STRATEGY, or a plan, on how to achieve that goal? How can one come up with a strategy without first knowing what it is meant to achieve and how it is going to be used? Otherwise why even go through the trouble of creating the "strategy"? But then, what do I know..... BC -- "Oh what a tangled web we weave When first we practice to deceive." As far as I know, the next step (goal) is the ARM port and the establishment of an openSUSE Foundation.

To all strategy-people: I´m glad that your paper is ready so far, and good luck with the goals. thanks -- Kim Leyendecker (kdl@k-dl.de.vu) openSUSE Ambassador, openSUSE Wiki Team DE HAVE A LOT OF FUN! http://www.opensuse.org Have you tried SUSE Studio? Yep, that sounds about right. I'm not sure we had a tangible goal to aim for, but at least we now have a strategy. I was just wondering if anyone had thought about what we do with it.
How can one come up with a strategy without first knowing what it is meant to achieve and how it is going to be used?

That was what I was thinking too, but perhaps it would be better to organise that rather than leave it to each individual. -- Per Jessen, Zürich (18.0°C) -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-project+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-project+help@opensuse.org

We pray contributors will care, and hence pull in a somewhat common direction. Instead of pulling in 100 different ones as before. That's all we can do. Not even SUSE employees are guaranteed to give a damn about the document. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-project+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-project+help@opensuse.org

Yeah ... I guess time will tell, but at least the strategy will look good on print. -- Per Jessen, Zürich (19.9°C) -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-project+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-project+help@opensuse.org

Just a quick inquiry. This may sound a bit provocative but it isn't meant to be, it is a genuine inquiry. According to the numbers published, only about 40% of OpenSUSE members have voted on the strategy, and even that required some convincing (see "Strategy voting reminder!" emails). Given that these members are supposed to be the "active" part of the community, the number sounds fairly low. Is there a reason for that observation? two ideas: * the membership status shows the *past* acivity. Right now it's life extended and may be should not :-( * the members are that for many different kind of work (programming, advertising, blogging...). Discussing strategy is a pretty hard work and people not sur may not want to participate to the vote if they are unsure... just a feeling, though jdd -- http://www.dodin.net http://www.youtube.com/user/jdddodinorg http://jdd.blip.tv/ -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-project+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-project+help@opensuse.org
