[opensuse-project] Contributor gifts / rewards
Hello, as promised in the project meetings, I created a list of proposals for contributor gifts. It would probably be unreadable in a mail, therefore I put it on the wiki: http://en.opensuse.org/openSUSE:Contributor_gifts Feedback and opinions welcome ;-) - I don't want to decide on this alone. Please don't delete items from the page without discussion. Adding comments or new ideas is ok. For discussion, reply to this mail. Regards, Christian Boltz -- There's such a thing as real life? Is it packages for openSUSE yet? Will there be a YaST2 module for easy configuration? Is it going to be included in 11.2 or is it so complex it's going to have to wait until 11.3? More importantly, will it be on the DVD, or would people need to use one of the online repos to download it? * openSUSE bussiness cards (with the recipient name). Not very expensive, rewarding and usefull for promoting openSUSE. * Also personal "member card" (Mr XXX is an approved openSUSE contributor"... * as goddies, don't forget stickers and caps! (caps seems to be very appredicated). jdd -- http://www.dodin.net http://pizzanetti.fr -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-project+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-project+help@opensuse.org
" (boxed version of openSUSE doesn't really make sense nowadays IMHO) " It doesn't make sense for a couple reasons. Cost to ship being one of them. One thing I noticed about the box, is that they were like a "trophy" to some. Not sure something like a T-shirt would ever conjure the same effect. Alan

The T-shirt was the most effective one... Always was the starting point of opensource discussions... The box was useful too... I converted an ubuntu-er with it... but I still prefer the t-shirt. Alin On Wed 10 Aug 2011 08:15:34 Alan Clark wrote:

I must agree that box, or at minimum properly printed DVD in a nice sleeve, with some information about software maker and distributor, have much better impact then home brewed version with hand written labels. People easily accept that some software has liberal license, but a home brewed DVD will raise flags about its origin and validity. It works with friends as there is already established trust, but not elsewhere. -- Regards, Rajko -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-project+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-project+help@opensuse.org

that's true, but also the official medium make the deal more professional. If we want to be the better Linux ever, we have to show confidence. Right now we are one of the best (if not the best at all) sponsored distribution. I can say *others* see this! Mandriva do not give dvd anymore, Ubuntu sell them. It's not always good to give for free. People that pay something often feel more involved, but it's anyway a proof of strength and many people like strength! It's perfectly good to have burned dvd for the month following the distribution release, anybody know some delay is necessary, but giving more is good. That said, the next step is to have localized dvd's. In France having a french DVD, is essential to reach a larger public jdd -- http://www.dodin.net http://pizzanetti.fr -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-project+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-project+help@opensuse.org

we need some cheaper goodies. T-shirts are much too expensive for mass distribution, even dvd's are expensive. * key holders? * phone or member card holder (the thing you set around your neck to hold the visitor card, Firefox have very nice ones) *caps. Caps may be cheaper than T-shirts and are very appreciated (and seen from far away :-) * tips sheets - the poster of openSUSE 11.4 was very appreciated for his back! the cheat sheet * pre-printed origami chameleon (printed with dashed lines where to fold) jdd -- http://www.dodin.net http://pizzanetti.fr -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-project+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-project+help@opensuse.org
https://donate.mozilla.org/page/contribute/protect-the-web this is very nice, as soon as the foundation is founded :-) jdd -- http://www.dodin.net http://pizzanetti.fr -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-project+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-project+help@opensuse.org
*caps. Caps may be cheaper than T-shirts and are very appreciated (and seen from far away :-) but common sense and politeness says you should lose the cap when inside... you always have the t-shirt on you... ok... almost always...

I am in for the t-shirt...
I also have an idea about that
Front and back all the 300 names of the contributors(alphabetically)
and somewhere in the front middle the openSUSE Head(the Circle one).
That way you make all 300 people connected to each other and proud to
have their name printed in a T-shirt, just try to write all 300 names
correct.
