I added the counter on my site... Unfortunately, it seems there is a white stripe on top and bottom of the banner. Quiet a bad look on my site. Not needed, the rendering is extremely fast. It just takes a template picture and renders 2 or 3 strings on it. And it isn't one PNG per day as it also depends on the locale requested by the browser.

Handling the purge of a persistent cache (on disk) is more work than just drawing the strings on it every time (as said, it's very fast).
