[opensuse-project] Community Meeting: Package Manager Redesign on Saturday May, 12, 2007
This meeting is to discuss the initial stages of the package manager redesign (see http://en.opensuse.org/Package_Manager_Redesign). What: Package Manager Redesign domain discussion Where: IRC #opensuse-project, Saturday May 12, 2007: 20:00 GMT S(http://www.timeanddate.com/worldclock/fixedtime.html?day=12&month=5&year=2007&hour=19&min=0&sec=0&p1=0) Who: Java programmers, MySQL developers, Artwork people, Packagers, web designers, anyone else interested (SUSE employees, etc..) Topics: * Definition of the project: goals * Domain of project: what it should provide, usecases and solutions * Initial planning (what we want in initial revision, what we want ready by OpenSUSE version X) If you want to help make OpenSUSE the best desktop platform in regards to adding, removing, and searching for applications (our focus is on applications, not packages for this project), you should come. Some decisions already made: 1. Java backend for the metadata service, maybe for frontend 2. On the server use what you like, but please not a sluggish java application in the distribution. We already have one of the slowest package managers around. The web frontend :)
The client frontend, I'm thinking more of something like python (for
good reasons.. hackability, ability to interface with C++, and ability
to write gtk and qt UIs easily)
