Help - Preserving disk data during installation
I have purchased a copy of SuSE Linux 7.1 PPC edition just a few days ago and I need help regarding the system's installation. My system is an Apple Powerbook G3 (Pismo series, the one with Firewire and DVD). The hard disk is partitioned as follows: Total capacity: 16Gb 1st Partition: MacOS X (HFS+) 10Gb 2nd Partition: MacOS 9 (HFS+) 3Gb Free space on disk: 3Gb I was planing to install SuSE Linux on the 3Gb free space at the end of the hard disk, but I couldn't find any instruction on the manual that would allow me to do so without losing all data on the other two partitions. Is it possible to re-partition the free space on the disk onto the three partitions required by SuSE Linux? Please advise on how this can be done. As far as I know it's not possible. I had the same problem. you have to backup all your data and repartition. Jaap-Jan

AFAIK, if you think you can fit everything on the 3GB (including swap space) then you can use either Hard Disk Toolkit (commercial) or pdisk to create your partition(s) on the free space without reformatting. SuSE installer should also have a partitioning tool, but I don't know for sure. Or, if you can temporarily put the OS9 files on your 10G partition, you'd have more disk space to reconfigure for MacOS and SuSE with the aforementioned utilities. -ms -- Many have Montana envy ... the lucky get to live here! Why not use pdisk to split the 3gig partition, and then run the installer? .... raw text.... raw power....
