K I'll RTFM if someone can point it out to me.. if this info is on SUSE's / Novell's site I missed it. Any indication of SLES on PPC ? I guess my real question is what is the state of SUSE on PPC. I'm looking for a real solution I can get support for; I've been using SUSE on X86 for 4 or 5 years now so I'd like to stay in that direction if feasible. But I can't find any indication regarding the feasibility of that on Novell's site. Thanks-

Hmmm. The actual state seems to be the following: SuSE Linux Professional 7.3 PPC (this is the last release) SuSE Linux Enterprise Server 8 for pSeries and iSeries I already checked the above two releases on an IBM RS/6000 7025-F50 Server (604e processor, CHRP architecture). I am currently working on the translation of my article issued in a hungarian Un*x related portal to publish on this mailing list. The above stuff work flawless on the machine. I think (and I am quite sure) that SLES9 has also PPC version supporting the G5 architecture which is not the case for the previous releases. In case somebody wants to evaluate SLES 9 POWER, you can get a free download here (after registration): http://www.novell.com/products/linuxenterpriseserver/eval.html BTW, officially supported are only the Power4 and Power5 modells of IBMs pSeries and iSeries, plus the JS20 and the OpenPower 720. A lot of the Power3 modells work too, but are not officially supported. Apple G4 and G5 are not supported officially too, but you can give them a try, most of them should work (Insert first CD and press C while booting) ... Gruss vom Matze

SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 9 for IBM Power is the current server based ppc product. It will work to some degree on Apple PowerPC machines, but these are not officialy supported. A desktop offering for PPC is not available at this time. Ciao, Marcus

(Hey, I recognize that name from another list! - OSXS) Michael, They dumped us mac guys back on SuSE version 7.3. Many folks jumped to others such as yellowdoglinux.com And of course google for linux on PPC, but if you are looking to get support such as what you get on SLES, good luck. Shame, as soon as SuSE comes back to PPC (apple boxes) I'm may come back. I think if you can get anything past 7.3 to work on a apple box you would be the first one here. And yes, I'm talking SLES or Pro. You may be better off looking on the IBM site for what you want. -- Thanks, George Macintosh "Many Applications Crash, If Not, The Operating System Hangs"
