Hi, I have a PowerMac 4400/160Mhz with 32MB and 2GB HD connected to my LAN with a Realtek PCI 10BaseT ethernet card that is not predestined for mac computers. I only want to recycle this oldworld mac for navigate on the web, macos dont see this card, but Linux can. I have ever tested most diestributions for PPC : -Mandrake PPC : very nice distribution but not very finished for oldworld macs and too heavy for my poor old PowerMac. -YDL : a too untidy distribution, can't go farer than partition editing (suxx bug at this moment) and the french traduction is very bad - Debian : I think very good way but not enought intuitive, I didnt find any ram file on any cd to load on BootX to start the install (only boot.bin but I get a strange thing), BootX is int he CD1 but there is no word about it in the guide. - SuSe : My last hope, moreover, puiguinppc.org webmaster recommanded me this distribution for my needs. My only problem with SuSe is downloading, I have ever read the "why we dont give any iso", my mac dont get 64MB so I cant download from ftp, SuSe website speak about a README.FTP to read for comp that have less than 64MB but I did not see it anywhere (there is a README on the ftp but it dont say any word about that)(http://sdb.suse.de/en/sdb/html/lmuelle_suselinux_internet.html). That I am doing is downloading all ppc/7.1 directory from the ftp to my pc I dont know when it will finish and for now I have 1.5GB, I also dont know how I will do to install on the mac because my ethernet card cant work on macos (to transfert this directory) and my mac harddrive is only of 2GB. I can't also buy the pack because I dont know If it will work like I want on my computer, I ever tested much distributions, I am not at the end of my surprises ! Please help me!!! Thank you !

You can not install via ftp, you need at least 72mb. You could mirror the ftp tree and do a nfs installation. Or you have to buy the CD set. There are some troubles with the 4400 ATI chip, I think only 2.2 kernels can be used. It might be that recent 2.4 kernels behave better, I have no success reports.
