Re: [suse-ppc] Problems loading suse onto ibm p710
Thanks for the info guys
However I tried typing "install console=hvsi0"
The install continues as normal, but once again when yast is started the
screen goes blank and I am unable to continue with the install.
Is the best solution to install SLES 9 sp2, if so do you know the URL for
the download?
Thanks
Martin

The URL is (hopefully) given in you maintence contract. Vnc installations require a password with either 6 or 7 or 8 chars. Every other lenght is rejected by the vnc server. Try to boot with 'install console=hvsi0 textmode=1' to force yast into textmode. To force a specific network interface, append 'netdevice=eth0' to skip the question for a network interface. -- short story of a lazy sysadmin: alias appserv=wotan
Unfortunately with the following string "install console=hvsi0 textmode=1"
the screen still goes blank after starting yast
I also tried this vnc string "install vnc=1 vnc_password=abc123
netdevice=eth0", this takes me past the NIC selection and asks do I want
to use DHCP.
I select 2 for no, however I get the kernel panic error again. I wonder if
there is also an argument to "install" to answer the DHCP question,
something like dhcp=no?
Thanks

You can provide following arguments to have your network configuration
already done:
insmod=e1000 hostip=192.168.1.10 netmask=255.255.255.0 ..
in this case there will be no DHCP request.
