Leo, I think work is underway to get Linux running on the G5 by Yellow Dog, I don't think existing distributions will work out of the box. Jaap-Jan On woensdag, okt 1, 2003, at 21:11 Europe/Amsterdam, Leo Berdi wrote:

Not quite "gave up", there's still SLES for ppc 32/64 that's maintained. Of course, it's something like $800... -- -ckm

So, what makes you think they haven't? What part of your comment means they are still with us? #(step up on soap box) #Where are they? 7.3? That was 11/20/2001. To me, that is bailing. #I am not the only one I know that doesn't download the stuff, we buy the CD's. It's easier and that way we #support the company. I am going to put Linux on a PC I built... but not SuSE. Anything but SuSE. They #bailed on the PPC, so I'm going some other vendor. *(OT-I did the same thing when QuickBooks Pro #bailed...they stopped developing for the mac...but that's for another list) # #Have you tried calling tech support? I tried to instal SuSE on a B&W 350, and a 8550 w/Sonnet G3 card. #Wouldn't "find" the disk. I called them... just to get into phone hell... If you follow the apple OSX and ASIP #server lists, there are quite a few people that have gone over to linux. No one can recommend SuSE any #more. Shoot, thats what I tried to do. Finally just bought OSXS 10.2. Yea, I have a few linux books. For some #reason they are not helpful with netatalk. Shoot, two or three of them don't even mention it. # #I think I did get it to install once. Couldn't find any GUI with netatalk. Even did a "full install". I found simba #config. but nothing for any kind of GUI for a apple file server. # #Yellowdog got a large contract to put Linux on a bunch of xservers for the US navy. That should say #something, when they come with apple's OS. # #Like I said, show me what makes you think they haven't bailed on us? #(step down) George
