Hi, I installed the XFree86 4.1.0 from the RPMs I got from ftp.suse.com. The upgrade is OK, but when I run XFree86 -configure I get a lot of "unresolved symbols" (see attached output). The system is a G4/733MHz with kernel 2.4.12 (compiled with the .config from the SuSE 2.4.2 kernel). The graphics card is the original NVidia card that comes with the computer (I am working to get a supported ATI card). Thanks for any help, S. Schapiro PS: The install went without problems after I circumvented some yast bugs (PC-fdisk instead of pdisk ...) and manually installed yaboot. PPS: It's a pity SuSE doesn't list this computer as supported (without graphics card) since it works all very well (and the 2.4.12 kernel does recognize the NIC unlike the 2.4.2 kernel). PPPS: Of course we only want to use the computer for compiling things and running them, not really as a desktop workstation :-) -- Schlomo Schapiro System Administrator MobilEye Vision Technologies Ltd. 24 Mishol Hadkalim St., Jerusalem, Israel Telephone: + 972-2-586-6989 Ext. 131 Mobile: + 972-55-767898 Fax: + 972-2-586-7720 email: schapiro@mobileye.com WWW: http://www.mobileye.com

It will have the "is supported" state as soon as it works as expected. And that isnt the case right now. You could try the k_deflt.rpm here, it has some basic nvidia support: ftp://ftp.suse.com/pub/suse/ppc/kernel/BETA/k_deflt.rpm You need newer modulils.rpm, the boot binary is /boot/vmlinux. Hi, I already compiled a 2.4.12 kernel, but it doesn't look much better with regard to the NVidia. Actually this really doesn't bother me as long as I can plug in another card which will work. That's why I asked about the unresolved symbols in all the hardware modules of XFree 4.1.0. Do you know about this problem ? Would the adviced kernel RPM solve that, too ? And, do you know wether the upcoming SuSE's for PPC will boot without the user typing boot cd:\\yaboot from the OF menu and install yaboot ? (BTW, yast1 did NOT offer me to install something for the next boot like it does on i386). What about the fdisk thing yast1 ? Will the next versions of yast1 use pdisk instead or at least not offer fdisk or really at least plant a large warning not to use it unless "you know what you do" ? You might wonder why I am talking only about yast1. The reason is that I like the tool because it gives me total freedom in the installation why still doing the job of selecting needed packages etc. And, sadly SuSE PPC does not contain a Rescue CD ... Regards, Schlomo PS: I had the SuSE PPC specially brought over from Germany by a friend because I couldn't buy it here ! On Sun, 28 Oct 2001, Olaf Hering wrote:
