7.1PPC, Pismo, Ethernet
I am having a real struggle getting ethernet running with Suse Linux 7.1 on my Pismo. On LinuxPPC 2000 it took me five minutes. Question: What type of ethernet-card should I choose in Yast -> System Adm. -> Integrate hardware into system -> Configure network device? - Apple onboard Ethernet mace - Apple onboard Ethernet bmac - Apple onboard Ethernet gmac ? Thank! -j
("Dont Panic") Try "onboard Ethernet gmac". Worked on my pismo. I ran into the same problem when I was trying to figure out the correct kernel configuration for a re-compile of the SuSE 2.4.2 kernel sources. Cheers, Michel Am Mittwoch, 23. Mai 2001 16:10 schrieben Sie:

Thank you, Michel and Torsten. Selecting the "gmac"-ethernetcard worked on my Pismo. Now I can talk to my local network again. Great with quick response; great to find out that people are using this mailinglist. Moving from Red Hat and LinuxPPC, SuSE is a kind of a new field to me. -j
The Pismo uses gmac. The standard SuSE-kernel has all types configured. If it doesn't work right away, you might have another problem.... Greets Torsten Janus Sandsgaard wrote:

Yes I guess so. It's a bit strange. Maybe I missed up something, but I think I tried almost everything (including the right "gmac"-setup) on my fist Suse7.1PPC-installation without any results. Don't remember how I got there, but somehow on of the pre-defined installation-setups missed support for DHCP, which I find a bit strange. Installing DHCP-support afterwards didn't help me. After installing again (this time with a small installation using YaST1, knowing to look for gmac-ethernet), things worked really painless. Anyway... I'm online again now. ;-) -j
