Kernel compile errors
Hello! I've tried several different setup and version of kernels to be compiled on my system but all of them gave me an error when I got the make modules_install. It just installs a couple of files and then gives error 2 messages (always when it came to ipfiltering or something similar) I tried kernel 2.4.19, 2.4.18, 2.4.16 and currently I am compiling the SuSE 2.4.12 kernel (part of 7.3) to see if this one will work at all. Is this a typical error newbies make or are my sources bad? I would really love to compile kernel 2.4.19 since it already includes the driver for my formac proformance 3 stephan

Hey!
Unfortunately I don't have the error messages anymore , but I remember
them as something like (after I wrote make modules_install):
make[6]: *** [fastdep] Error 127
make[6]: Leaving directory `/usr/src/linux-2.4.10.SuSE/drivers/sgi/char'
make[5]: *** [_sfdep_char] Error 2
make[5]: Leaving directory `/usr/src/linux-2.4.10.SuSE/drivers/sgi'
make[4]: *** [fastdep] Error 2
make[4]: Leaving directory `/usr/src/linux-2.4.10.SuSE/drivers/sgi'
make[3]: *** [_sfdep_sgi] Error 2
make[3]: Leaving directory `/usr/src/linux-2.4.10.SuSE/drivers'
make[2]: *** [fastdep] Error 2
make[2]: Leaving directory `/usr/src/linux-2.4.10.SuSE/drivers'
make[1]: *** [_sfdep_drivers] Error 2
make[1]: Leaving directory `/usr/src/linux-2.4.10.SuSE'
make: *** [dep-files] Error 2
speedymid:/usr/src/linux #
these are not the actual error msgs, but the original msgs looked like
this. I will have to reinstall my system right now, therefore i cannot
reproduce the errors right now. I hope you can still help me.
