I've stuck a beta release of my rewritten mkudffs util up on sourceforge. Also included is a moded cdrwtool that works with it. http://prdownloads.sourceforge.net/linux-udf/udftools-1.0.0b1.tar.gz Any problems, suggestions, etc. Let me know.... It should generate much more compliant images than the previous version, as well as supporting generating 2.x images in addition to 1.5. Ben
Hello Ben.
Thank you for new realise!
Unfortunally i can start formatting with new cdrwtool version 1.0.0b1
Here is console output from cdrwtool (v1.0.0b1):
[serge@my serge]$ cdrwtool -d /dev/sr0 -q
using device /dev/sr0
1312KB internal buffer
setting write speed to 12x
Settings for /dev/sr0:
Fixed packets, size 32
Mode-2 disc
I'm going to do a quick setup of /dev/sr0. The disc is going to be blanked and formatted with one
big track. All data on the device will be lost!! Press CTRL-C to cancel now.
ENTER to continue.
Initiating quick disc blank
Disc capacity is 359847 blocks (719694KB/702MB)
Formatting track
wait_cmd: Invalid argument
Command failed: 04 17 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 - sense 05.26.00
format disc: Illegal seek
---
Kernel messages from /var/log/messages:
Jan 31 15:49:10 my kernel: sr0: CDROM (ioctl) reports ILLEGAL REQUEST.
Jan 31 15:50:48 my kernel: cdrom: This disc doesn't have any tracks I recognize!
---
And for comparision console output from cdrwtool (v. 0.9.5):
[serge@my home]# cdrwtool -d /dev/cdrom -q
using device /dev/cdrom
1312KB internal buffer
setting write speed to 12X
Settings for /dev/cdrom:
Fixed packets, size 32
Mode-2 disc
...
Initiating quick disc blank
Disc capacity is 295264 blocks (590528KB/576 MB)
Formatting track
Writing UDF structures to disc
7200 (EET) /-120
Quick setup complete!

My CDRW writer support only 4X speed, cdrwtool respond about setting speed to 12X,
is this a problem ?
Why new cdrwtool report different disc capacity (702Mb instead of 576 Mb)?
How to resolve this problem ?
What an additional parameters to cdrwtool utility ?
Disc is the same - Verbatim CDRW 700 Mb.
Hardware: IDE Mitsumi 4805 (4x8x32) with SCSI emulation, CPU K6-2-500
Software: RedHat 7.2, patched (with packet 2.4.18-pre4-2) kernel 2.4.17 with
UDF write support (write caching off), gcc-2.95-3
Thanks.

The next beta release is up on sourceforge. The biggest addition is man pages, and they even might be accurate =] Let me know if you see any spelling mistakes, missing options, confusing text, etc.. cdrwtool is back to generating udf 1.50 images by default. 2.00 and 2.01 can be generated by specifying -v 0x0200 or -v 0x0201. Specifying -v 0x0102 will generate a non-compliant image (it still sticks the sparing table in there) =] http://prdownloads.sourceforge.net/linux-udf/udftools-1.0.0b2.tar.gz Ben

There no chkudf utility in this tarball. How to check UDF structure on CDRW disc ? Is the chkudf (from udftools-0.9.5) compatible with cdrwtool (from udftools -1.0.0b)? Thanks, Sergiy Kudryk.
