I have uploaded a patch for kernel 2.4.21: http://w1.894.telia.com/~u89404340/patches/packet/2.4/packet-2.4.21.patch.bz... Changes since last version: - Made pkt_set_speed use 0xffff when setting maximum speed. - Don't hard code the value for GPCMD_SET_SPEED in pkt_set_speed(). - When closing the packet driver, flush the cache before resetting the speed, because some drives complain with a command sequence error otherwise. - Removed relocate_blocks filesystem hook. It won't be used in 2.4 anyway. - Updated udf filesystem from cvs tree. -- Peter Osterlund - petero2@telia.com http://w1.894.telia.com/~u89404340
I am sorry if this is out of topic but I could not resist asking about the patch for synaptics touch pad used in many laptops including mine which I found on http://w1.894.telia.com/~u89404340/patches/, just before the directory containing patches for packet writing. I tried patching kernel 2.4.21 with this patch using: patch -p1

THis patch is for 2.5.X as far as I see. But somewhere there is a patch for 2.4.X too, but forgot where -- sorry. It is an experimental patch for 2.5.70. For 2.4.x you don't need a kernel patch. If you are using X, try this driver: http://w1.894.telia.com/~u89404340/touchpad/index.html I think there are beta versions of gpm that include support for synpatics touchpads too, but I don't have a link. There is a discussion thread called "[PATCH] Synaptics TouchPad driver for 2.5.70" on the linux kernel mailing list, so further discussions should take place there. -- Peter Osterlund - petero2@telia.com http://w1.894.telia.com/~u89404340
i believe that my dell inspiron has one of these and it "just works". no apperant need for a kernel patch. Thank you Roger. This is the setting that I was looking for. Yup, it is right that I don't need a kernel patch. Thank you for everyone who has given their time and help. Cheers, Alimin roger wrote:
