[opensuse-packaging] packaging in science repo
Hi there, I try to package few science related packages in science repo... the problem I hit is that some of their dependences are coming to something which is called a dual licence. I will refer here only to two of them * grace openmotif and * qtiplot - alglib which claim to be gpl2 for non-commercial use. the older version that I have on obs claims to be BSD clause 3 http://www.alglib.net/download.php regards, Alin Alin -- Without Questions there are no Answers! ______________________________________________________________________ Alin Marin ELENA Advanced Molecular Simulation Research Laboratory School of Physics, University College Dublin ---- Ardionsamblú Móilíneach Saotharlann Taighde Scoil na Fisice, An Coláiste Ollscoile, Baile Átha Cliath ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------- http://alin.elenaworld.net ______________________________________________________________________ -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-packaging+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-packaging+owner@opensuse.org

the issue is that both openmotif and alglib... they do not qualify for obs under the oss licence rule... though packages that are in common usage in science community need them... so the question is how do we handle them? do we push them to non-oss? and then build science repos against non-oss as these have non-commercial free source usage, do we add a pop-up licence to them telling users about? I have no idea what is opensuse-bar... What do you mean by gpl2? There is no such thing as GPL2 for non-commercial use. Chris -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-packaging+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-packaging+owner@opensuse.org

Looking at the link, it looks like they mean "closed-source applications". -Todd -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-packaging+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-packaging+owner@opensuse.org
