[opensuse-packaging] What replaces yup?
Hi, what is the proposed way to mirror SLE11 Updates? yup is not included in SLE11, 11.1 and factory. And the SLE10 yup does not do it. -- Mit freundlichen Gruessen, Andreas Vetter Informations- und Kommunikationstechnik Fakultaet fuer Physik und Astronomie Universitaet Wuerzburg -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-packaging+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-packaging+help@opensuse.org
Hi, Use the "Subscription Management Tool" aka SMT http://www.novell.com/support Click on the Download tab and search for SMT. It is an add-on product for SLES10. It can mirror SLE10 and SLE11 repositories. Am Mittwoch, 25. März 2009 12:32:34 schrieb Andreas Vetter:

Thanks a lot. Is it possible to mirror an existing smt-mirror, or is it mandatory to use the novell update server as source? Just by curiosity: What was the reason to switch from yup to smt? On Wed, 25 Mar 2009, Michael Calmer wrote:

"Chaining" smt servers is not supported. You should point a SMT server always to NCC.
Just by curiosity: What was the reason to switch from yup to smt?
yup was never supported.

yup was just a shell script with a text config snippet, no ui. (You can take the version available and enhance it to handle the newer stuff too btw, should not be hard....) It was however made in sparetime by unrelated / unbudgeted employees and non-employees (mge, eckhardt and myself to a large degree) and had the big disadvantage not to track licenses remotely. So we did an official project, with better configuration and with license tracking interconnected with Novell Customer Center => SMT. You can of course just mirror a SMT mirror too, but license tracking will be difficult then.
